And "jam tomorrow".

Yes, I'm one of those women who's pension age got moved, but Corbyns promise of "compensation" just sounds like the usual vote seeking promise.

Mr Johnson is no better.

Sick of all of them, feel a spoiled ballot paper coming on..........

growstuff Sun 24-Nov-19 18:18:23

That would be a waste of a trip to the polling station. Vote for Mr Buckethead or the Loony Party.

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 18:20:47

That will be 2 spoil ballot papers then Phoenix. I don't believe a word any one of them is saying. And as for their promises 're pension age; this has been promised time and time again. Their promises/pledges/manifestos are worthless and don't impress me much.

EllanVannin Sun 24-Nov-19 18:24:13

Although this didn't affect me I feel so dreadfully sorry for those who are suffering, particularly those who are widowed or without partners to support them. and finding themselves having to continue working. Not everyone is fit enough beyond 60 and Lord knows, the pension is little enough to manage on but at least it's a gateway to other benefits and better than the worry of further years struggling on. It's criminal I think.

SirChenjin Sun 24-Nov-19 18:24:29

Don’t spoil the ballot paper - what good will that do? Is there no independent candidate who might be worth your vote?

growstuff Sun 24-Nov-19 18:28:45

I can't get excited over the compensation either, even though £31,200 would be a life changing amount for me. Despite ill health, I've had to carry on working and am expecting to continue for another 18 months if I don't drop down dead.

I actually don't think the compensation is justified anyway. I knew in 1995 that my state pension age would be 65 and there's not very much I could have done differently. It would be nonsense to claim I didn't know about it.

I've said all along that what I think is unfair is that the rules to Working Tax Credit were changed with the transition to Universal Credit. Previously, people (men) could claim WTC if they worked 16 hours a week rather than the usual 30 hours. This mean that people could start to take it a bit easy if their health wasn't up to working full time and receive a top up. Now, over 60s have to work 30 hours a week before they're eligible.

If the campaigners had been prepared to accept means tested help rather than full compensation, they would probably have stood a chance of being successful. They also seem to have forgotten that they will generally receive more state pension than older people.

Nevertheless, the argument that the country can't afford it is nonsense.

growstuff Sun 24-Nov-19 18:30:08

EllanVannin The state pension isn't a gateway to other benefits, unless people are receiving Pension Credit.

I feel for your frustration phoenix and Chewbacca, but not to vote is to let someone else decide for you.

Whether we like it or not, vote or not, either BJ or JC will be our next PM. We have to decide, either by voting directly for them or by tactical voting.

One of them has a well-proven track record of telling blatant lies, being bone idle, offensive in his use of language and with political and financial links to Russia and Russian oligarchs. This is the opinion of his friends, family, Civil Service and work colleagues.

The other one, though untried and a little fanciful in his aspirations, has a reputation for being sincere and honest.

Take your pick. Granted it's not a great choice, but one of them will almost certainly be the next PM. shock

phoenix Sun 24-Nov-19 18:43:26

As yet have received no printed info regarding who's standing, what their policies are etc, although when going to Plymouth for post cataract check the local Conservative candidates supporters had been busy, lots of posters up. (BTW, it's Geoffrey Cox, Attorney General and of the baritone voice)

TBH, if there was a Monster Raving Loony candidate, I would be damn well tempted to vote for them!

phoenix Sun 24-Nov-19 18:50:42

Anagram, he may be presenting as sincere, but his back catalogue, so to speak, shows some rather worrying associations.

I feel between a rock and a hard place with those two. sad

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 18:54:57

One of them lies. One of them has a permanent splinter in his arse from sitting on fences all his political life. One of them is just a puppet whos strings are twitched by his master. Both are untrustworthy.

Choices. Choices.

FlexibleFriend Sun 24-Nov-19 19:14:12

I'm shocked how vehemently people are supporting any of the crap being spouted. They can promise the moon it doesn't mean it will ever be delivered. Probably end up in the same position after the election as we're in now. I already know who I'm voting for and nothing anyone says will change that.

Amagran Sun 24-Nov-19 19:21:50

I really, really, don't want to bring this thread or this election back to B**x**. But for anyone who is undecided, maybe just ask yourself whether or not you want to remain in the EU.

It's better than spoiling ballot papers. Or just voting for the one who looks best hanging off a zip wire.

Oopsminty Sun 24-Nov-19 19:26:33

Manifestos are conveniently forgotten once elected.

We all know this

lemongrove Sun 24-Nov-19 19:32:51

We certainly do Oopsminty
Promises to lure in the voters are promised at every GE but the sheer scale of what Labour wants to do is the problem, they would either try and fail to do them ( with any luck)
Or they really would do many of them, wreck the economy and we would be back facing another GE in a couple of years!
Go and draw a rude pic on your ballot paper Phoenix?

MaizieD Sun 24-Nov-19 19:33:51

Well, I wish that Cameron had forgotten his 2015 manifesto promise to hold a referendum on membership of the EU.

What an idiotic statement, Oops, It is far from true.

Hetty58 Sun 24-Nov-19 19:35:49

We should all vote based on what's important (or most important) to us, not on the 'personalities' involved.

lemongrove Sun 24-Nov-19 19:36:52

Corbyn is actually offering the universe on a stick.??☀️?

varian Sun 24-Nov-19 21:32:24

No-one has to chose either of these dreadful men.

Vote Liberal Democrat to Stop Brexit and put the nightmare behind us.

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 21:34:10

But that would mean Swindon varian and I can't be doing with her either. Next!

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 21:34:40

Swinson not Swindon!

lemongrove Sun 24-Nov-19 21:36:29

I think she should change her name by deed poll as so many people say Swindon.?

varian Sun 24-Nov-19 21:49:02

I have never heard anyone refer to her as that. Jo Swinson is her name and it is not difficult to say it or write it or remember it. I do realise that her strong stance on stopping brexit does not go down well with those still identifying as leavers but silly name calling is pretty pathetic.

Chewbacca Sun 24-Nov-19 21:56:37

It wasn't "silly name calling" varian; it was an auto correct typo. That is all. I corrected it as soon as I saw it had come up I correctly. hmm

Anniebach Sun 24-Nov-19 22:05:46

Swinson is sooo irritating
