Bias in the BBC?

(38 Posts)

Every morning I listen to a quick news briefing on Alexa...from the BBC.

Today it is an exact repeat of yesterday’s news. Even down to the story of bullying in the beauty industry. Not just similar stories but an exact repeat. Either someone has made a cock up (never happened before) or this is deliberate?

It just so happens that the lead story is Corbyn knocking ...a coincidence?

I don’t think so!

Twitter is buzzing with annoyance at the BBC bias. It is no longer covert. They no longer care.

This election is close to becoming illegitimate.

Kuenssberg tweeted “every journalist pummel Corbyn”

She has since deleted it but I saw it along with many others.

Rough tweet count from @bbclaurak over last 7 days:

Tory Islamophobia 1
Westminster sexual harassment 1
Party donations 3
Lib Dem campaign 5
TV debates 7
Tory campaign 24
Labour campaign 29
Labour antisemitism 37

I’ve just checked and it has been updated to today’s news. I had to call the BBC about this at 7.00am and I gather I’m not the only one who noticed. Will there be an apology perhaps?

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 10:31:24

Is it Groundhog Day?

Like every day on Gransnet recently.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-Nov-19 10:31:48

The BBC have never ever made so many mistakes as they have done lately.

What is astounding though is that they are all in the Tories favour.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-Nov-19 10:32:17

What Callistemon?

Yehbutnobut Thu 28-Nov-19 10:35:58

Oh has the BBC has yesterday’s news on before Callistemon ...no, don’t think so. I listen very carefully.

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 10:36:34

The same thing being repeated on thread after thread, whitewave!
Open a new thread to find something new or interesting and at the moment it's the same every day (like the BBC apparently).

Gransnet Day

Ybnb

But I didn't say that did I.

I queried if the BBC is becoming like Gransnet.

lemongrove Thu 28-Nov-19 10:58:11

Callistemon agreed!
I think some posters, having looked at the polls, have decided to get their excuses in early about a possible big defeat for the LP....e.g it’s all the fault of the BBC! And.....this election is close to illegitimate, blah blah.
No it isn’t... it’s that not enough people are taken in by Corbyn and his policies if they lose.

Nonnie Thu 28-Nov-19 11:01:51

I have no doubt that the BBC is biased in favour of the Cons.

If they lied to Labour about Johnson being interviewed I think they should hold the interview anyway without him. Just get someone to fact check what he has said.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 28-Nov-19 11:05:20

Yehbutnobut I called the BBC earlier this week 're Politics Live. I have never don this before. To be honest they are so much in the pro Tory rut that I doublethink they can get out.

One thing the could do is to go in after Mr Johnson has visited a hospital, etc., and ask them what they really think.

MawB Thu 28-Nov-19 11:18:09

I remember thinking that Laura Kuenssberg was quite vicious to and about Theresa May, back in the day, but OMG she positively fawns on Boris.
I have never before in my life been aware of such obvious political bias both for Boris and against JC.
I can cope with overt bias e.g. DT because I know where they are coming from but in my innocence had believed the BBC would be even-handed. sad

Nonnie Thu 28-Nov-19 13:46:50

I agree Maw. Hope the pendulum swings back sometime. No way can we have a fair election at the moment

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-Nov-19 13:58:11

I think it is incredibly sad. Institutions like the BBC, government etc of which we were all so proud have completely lost so much respect and trust.

It bodes ill indeed for our democracy,

Opal Thu 28-Nov-19 15:30:45

Callistemon and Lemongrove - agreed!
This is the start of the LP posters making their excuses early because they're heading for defeat, and it's all someone's else's fault, it couldn't possibly be because the electorate can see through Corbyn and his cronies, and his impossible spending plans, and of course the BBC must be in cohoots with the Tories! It's laughable. And then they'll claim that the result of this election is illegal. So let's have another one, and whilst we're at it, let's have another referendum as well. It's really getting boring now, same old, same old.

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 15:33:29

I remember thinking that Laura Kuenssberg was quite vicious to and about Theresa May, back in the day,

Those were the days! When left wing Gransnetters loved Laura Kuenssberg and posters were jumped on like a ton of bricks if they said they weren't keen on her.

grin

Poor Laura, can't do right for doing wrong.

This link allows you to complain to the BBC about the BBC (no guarantee that they'll take notice)

Nonnie Thu 28-Nov-19 15:57:38

Interesting that the same old, same old are attacking posters instead of discussing the OP. Hmmmm

Yehbutnobut Thu 28-Nov-19 16:10:12

Yes, get back to the OP please. The bias of the BBC doubtless has been discussed before, but does that mean that a topic cannot be raised again when yet another blatant example arises?

There seem to be those who cannot discuss a topic rationally keeping to the point and somehow miss that point completely.

lemongrove Thu 28-Nov-19 16:31:23

It’s because the subject and the supposed bias of the BBC has been discussed ad nauseum on here yehbutno over the years.
Many used to say it favoured the right, and others said it favoured the left.IMHO it gets it about right, somewhere in the middle. It’s not your fault for raising it again of course, but that explains some of our ‘jaded’ responses.

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 17:32:48

Either someone has made a cock up (never happened before) or this is deliberate?
I do think they are making some cock ups lately and wondered if some of the employees are not as sharp and on the ball as they used to be? Not as professional?
One always thought of the BBC as very professional but some of the standards seem to have been lowered; even with such things as pronunciation, the dreadful spelling in sub-titles, showing a complete lack of understanding of the subject matter.

Callistemon Thu 28-Nov-19 17:34:11

And - before anyone pulls me up, when I say pronunciation I do not mean regional accents.

I mean not knowing how to pronounce certain words.
Including 'Brexit'.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 28-Nov-19 19:00:46

Oh dear. This is such a dirty election
