Boris -v- Corbyn

Anybody else underwhelmed? I’ve had enough of all these tv interviews now. Bring on Election Day!

NanKate Fri 06-Dec-19 21:42:52

No I couldn’t face it so I watched The Queen on Netflix.

I have already sent off my postal vote for BJ. Off to bed now and will listen to the news tomorrow summing it all up. Like many others I am Brexited Out. ?

FlexibleFriend Fri 06-Dec-19 21:45:16

I've already posted my vote so they ain't swaying me.

Charleygirl5 Fri 06-Dec-19 21:58:52

It was the same as usual- where is the money coming from for their grandiose ideas? I could not bear to see either as our MP.

Iam64 Fri 06-Dec-19 22:01:51

Is it worse than previous elections>
Feels that way to me, with so many people saying they wouldn't want to see either as PM

GracesGranMK3 Fri 06-Dec-19 22:06:40

The most interesting part was in the spin room when a young woman commented that there was nothing for her generation. It was interesting because we have been told that it is Generation X who will decide this election.

Chewbacca Fri 06-Dec-19 22:07:59

Never has the term "between a rock and a hard place" been so relevant.

Labaik Fri 06-Dec-19 22:09:21

So, Johnsons reply to 'how would we be better off after brexit' was something about animal welfare, the tampon tax and something about having free ports. The fact check disproved the free ports statement and Germany have just scrapped the tampon tax. Blow me, I hadn't realised Germany had left the EU before us....

Anniebach Fri 06-Dec-19 22:13:53

I have campaigned at every election since Harold Wilson 1964,
not the last election or this election.

Never did I hear people saying what they are saying now,

quizqueen Fri 06-Dec-19 22:15:37

People didn't vote to be better off, they voted to be free.

Barmeyoldbat Fri 06-Dec-19 22:16:13

Well Boris dragged up Brexit at every opportunity, it was the answer to all the problems. Did you notice how he looked embarrassed and uncomfortable when asked the question what punishment should you get for lying in an election?

On the whole I think JC came out of it as an adult and believable. How can Boris honour his promises and cut taxes?

Labaik Fri 06-Dec-19 22:45:31

So, quizqueen; what will you be able to do, post Brexit, that you couldn't do before?

growstuff Fri 06-Dec-19 22:48:22

Free of what? Free to do what?

Labaik Fri 06-Dec-19 23:15:06

Sounds as if the WTO [aka our saviours] are in trouble according to the Times. Can't do the link, I'm afraid.

growstuff Sat 07-Dec-19 01:18:04

Labaik It's been in trouble for quite some time. If the MSM were pro-Remain, it would have been headline news every day.

kittylester Sat 07-Dec-19 07:04:13

Sorry, dh's team were in tv and that took precedence!

Barmeyoldbat Sat 07-Dec-19 07:04:27

To be free, what a stupid statement, we are free.

You can wear what you like, you can strike for more money, you can travel, you can choose to marry or not, have children if you want, be gay,you have food standards, we have good trade with the whole of Europe, so what more do you want.....to be a state of US maybe

Sara65 Sat 07-Dec-19 07:26:03

I didn’t watch it, for the first time in my life I’m not going to vote, can’t bear any of them! If we had a decent independent I’d vote for them, but we haven’t.

Pantglas2 Sat 07-Dec-19 07:32:55

I’m struggling here Sara65 - we don’t have a green candidate. Labour and tories are neck and neck with no hope for lib democrats and Plaid Cymru so what am I going to do? There ought to be a box with ‘Undeserving’ next to it - I’d tick that in an instant.

GracesGranMK3 Sat 07-Dec-19 07:39:51

People didn't vote to be better off, they voted to be free.

The pro Brexit argument is almost completely incoherent now. It started with a mass attraction to nationalism and protectionism but having won over a core group with these slogans. "We want our country back" (we hadn't lost it but no one worried to much about that) to globalization and liberalisation. It shifted from an argument about immigration to one about trade policy. Now we learn that the Tory Brexit will bring more immigration. It will just be from other countries.

As for us winning any sort of trade war, the whole idea is madness. There are three major trade blocks, The U.S., The EU and China. We will not belong to any of them. We cannot viably "go it alone", even as the fifth or six largest economy we have none of the "clout" these blocks have.

Perhaps that is what those still thinking leaving the EU is right for our country, want obscurity, want poverty, and want a limited world role. As I said, the argument is completely incoherent.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Dec-19 07:41:53

Who won the last debate?

Britain Elects 33,000 votes

Corbyn 57% Johnson 28%

Paul Brand ITV 30,000 votes

Corbyn 78% Johnson 22%

Martin Lewis 23,000 votes

Corbyn 47% Johnson 25%

The Times 8,000 votes

Corbyn 63% Johnson 37%

YouGov 1,646 polled

Corbyn 48% Johnson 51%

Urmstongran Sat 07-Dec-19 07:53:42

Funny how all the sources you quote show Corbyn ahead in the debate WWmk2! Sky News & the Telegraph show differently, for example, plus others.

Pretty much neck and neck then.

I’ll be glad when it’s Friday!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Dec-19 07:55:41

Not all the sources ug

The one showing Johnson ahead is run by the Tories.

Funny that

Sara65 Sat 07-Dec-19 08:00:54

Pantglas

I agree, the tories have a massive majority here, so me not voting is unlikely to have an affect unless a lot of people feel the same.

Me, my husband and our three adult children have always voted conservative, this time it will only be my husband, but that’s more to do with fearing a country with Corbyn in charge.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 07-Dec-19 08:01:28

Most people consider Corbyn more trustworthy than Johnson.

Mind you Johnson sets a pretty low bar.
