Was taken from Sandringham to Edward 7th hospital ,London for observation in relation to a pre existing condition.

EllanVannin Fri 20-Dec-19 14:36:26

Oh dear. Last I heard he was staying at the cottage in Sandringham with the Queen on her way to join him. He hasn't aged as well as the Queen has he ?

jura2 Fri 20-Dec-19 14:38:38

he is quite a bit older, no? Probably been ill for a while and the poor Queen had to leave him to go and 'do her job', without pride and with a heavy heart. Feel really sorry for her.

Urmstongran Fri 20-Dec-19 14:39:18

He’s 98y. That's sad as his wife was travelling in the opposite direction. Hope all goes well for him.

jura2 Fri 20-Dec-19 14:48:42

I hope she won't have been robbed of being with him if he gets worse - because of this charade.

Anniebach Fri 20-Dec-19 14:49:44

Such admiration for the Queen, it doesn’t say if he was admitted this morning or yesterday but she did her duty for
the country regardless.

Hope he will be home for Christmas

tanith Fri 20-Dec-19 14:50:29

Doesn’t anyone else feel it’s sad that she’s not stayed in London to at least be near at hand for a visit at least? On second thoughts I suppose this is just how the Royals behave, to me it’s totally alien.

threexnanny Fri 20-Dec-19 14:52:37

I thought she seemed very tired when reading the speech - no doubt very worried.

Teetime Fri 20-Dec-19 14:52:54

I think they said it was precautionary and he isn't one to enjoy being fussed. He has had trouble with the plumbing in the past - I hope he's not uncomfortable and will have Christmas with the Queen.

Anniebach Fri 20-Dec-19 15:00:20

According to the BBC he was admitted this morning for a planned admission, was not taken by ambulance and walked into the hospital.

Calendargirl Fri 20-Dec-19 15:09:18

When he was in hospital once before, the Queen didn’t visit him. I’m sure she could be with him very speedily if it was thought necessary.

wildswan16 Fri 20-Dec-19 15:18:33

I'm sure if it was serious then she would. But she is also well aware that even though she doesn't want to "make a fuss", her presence anywhere causes all sorts of problems and any hospital really doesn't need that.

EllanVannin Fri 20-Dec-19 15:30:28

He hasn't looked 100% for a while really so maybe he'll be " fixed up " to spend and enjoy this Christmas at least. I hope so.
Realistically, nobody of that age can look too far ahead. Aww.

merlotgran Fri 20-Dec-19 15:52:28

I gasped when I saw the headline because it's a standing joke in our house that DH always predicts the Christmas/Boxing Day disaster.

A couple of weeks ago we were laughing about it and I asked him what this year's was going to be. Quick as a flash he said, 'Prince Philip!' shock

I kid you not!

I hope he's wrong.

merlotgran Fri 20-Dec-19 15:53:13

Not that I'm implying that disasters are a joke of course.

M0nica Fri 20-Dec-19 15:58:07

It was a planned admission and he is said to not to like having visitors when he is in hospital. Presumably the idea is to get him home for Christmas.

Nobody lives forever and he is 98.

BlueBelle Fri 20-Dec-19 16:34:29

The queen has her choices and should have /could have retired whenever she wanted, she could have had a few years peace and quiet with Old Phil, she’s the one holding on to the bitter end I think Charles is every bit as safe pair of hands as his mother and she will have to let go at one point if she hasn’t geared him up for his position by now, she never will

Anniebach Fri 20-Dec-19 16:40:36

She made a vow and is honouring it. She will not have to ‘let go’ until she dies. She could appoint Charles as Prince Regent
if she was not physically or mentally capable.

Pittcity Fri 20-Dec-19 16:54:25

DH just mumbled something about cryogenics.....wink

sodapop Fri 20-Dec-19 17:22:59

I hope Philip is not suffering anything serious. I suppose at his age every precaution should be taken. The Queen may be criticised for not being with him but I agree with Wildswan that would cause more problems for the hospital.

MamaCaz Fri 20-Dec-19 17:35:07

For heaven's sake, none of us (I presume!) has a clue about what sort of relationship the queen and Prince Phillip have. For all we know, they might hate the sight of each other by now, so I'm certainly not going to either praise, criticise or sympathise regarding the queen's whereabouts while he is in hospital.

BlueBelle Fri 20-Dec-19 17:40:12

Sorry but vows don’t mean you have to still keep going until you drop she could give over and still keep status she’s done more than enough and is it fair to wait till Charles is in his dotage to hand over not in my opinion but of course it is only my opinion

M0nica Fri 20-Dec-19 17:44:55

Vows can mean you have to still keep going until you drop. It depends on what the person making the vow understood it to mean at the time they took it.

Calendargirl Fri 20-Dec-19 17:51:24

This has been discussed before, the Queen ‘retiring’. I don’t think she will ever ‘retire’. She will just pass more on to Charles and others to do. Cannot imagine she will just pootle off to Sandringham and not have some sort of role.
My opinion only of course.

Urmstongran Fri 20-Dec-19 18:06:46

I’m sure I read somewhere she intends to stand down in 18 months and make Charles Prince Regent. No one would blame her - it’s been a long reign. I’m not particularly a royalist but I bet I cry when she dies.

The BBC have a codeword like ‘London Bridge’ and every now and again have a practice as to how they plan to broadcast the event. All the male newscasters have a black tie to hand ....
