Obviously not very bright or he would have used the automatic passport readers!! There are plenty of them at Schiphol Airport.

These are still available for U.K. Citizens until 31/12/2020, and probably beyond that date.

Oopsminty Fri 14-Feb-20 13:13:11

It's parody

MaizieD Fri 14-Feb-20 13:15:14

Yes, I saw his tweet earlier this morning.

A number of people thought it was a parody and others said that he was at the standard gate for non-Schengen countries and it was no different from normal. Whatever...

But it's a fact that from next January UK passport holders could be subject to longer delays at EU airports as non-EU
passport holders are processed more rigorously.

What a great price to pay for those who never wanted it...

(Note the 'could be')

Yehbutnobut Fri 14-Feb-20 13:28:53

???

NfkDumpling Fri 14-Feb-20 13:39:54

At our little local airport being non-EU is definitely an advantage. Last time we came through we had to queue for some time while the family from the Philippines practically walked straight through the non-EU chanel!

MaizieD Fri 14-Feb-20 14:02:20

I have to say, Nfk, I've often thought about joining the 'non-nationals' line at a UK airport because there are so few of them.

But I think the situation at an EU airport with hundreds of UK holidaymakers waiting to be processed could be rather different.. The local EU passport holders might appreciate it, though...

vampirequeen Fri 14-Feb-20 14:26:32

Schipol airport confirmed that they've introduced the system early.

M0nica Fri 14-Feb-20 15:01:01

What can one add, except 'We told you so'

MotherHubbard Fri 14-Feb-20 17:48:39

Fake news - delays due to new staff training.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Feb-20 18:38:16

^But it's a fact that from next January UK passport holders could be subject to longer delays at EU airports as non-EU

As you quite rightly say MaizieD ‘could be’.

The EU won’t want to annoy holidaymakers too much - money talks - as they may choose to holiday in Turkey or Florida instead! Killing the golden goose won’t be a good idea for long....

M0nica Fri 14-Feb-20 18:51:41

What ever the cause of the delays, it is the reaction of one traveller to these delays, and the cause he attributed it to.

I doubt the EU will be wringing their whithers if border controls choke off a few visitors from the UK, their tourist industry is so large and so many tourists are from other EU countries and from non-EU countries, they will find they can manage very well without us. The majority will still travel there anyway. We are not going to sell our house in France because we are no longer members of the EU, nor will most Brits with holiday homes in the EU.

So many Brexit supporters really overestimate our importance to ordinary everyday EU activities.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Feb-20 19:19:51

Neither are we going to sell the tiny apartment we have I’m Malaga MOnica. - delays don’t bother me as we go for extended stays.

But families, on holiday queuing with small children for hours? No way José. The disgruntled will holiday elsewhere. And the Costas know how big a market the ‘Brits abroad’ represent.

Common sense will prevail here.

MerylStreep Fri 14-Feb-20 19:41:37

Urmstongran
I've often wished I was non eu when coming through Malaga.
Whether I'm unlucky or not I don't remember a time when I haven't had a long queue.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Feb-20 19:49:31

It’s a very popular destination MerylStreep and if you are unlucky and several flights arrive at the same time ....
?
Luckily, only happened to us once in 15 years.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Feb-20 20:07:32

It is possible to pay for "fast passes" to skip through most airports.

I wonder how ,many times these leave voters have to get their come-uppence before they start to realise that they made a bad mistake?

quizqueen Fri 14-Feb-20 20:40:40

I've waited 47 years to leave the EU so a bit of extra time spent waiting to enter a foreign country is fine by me. Of course, if the EU would rather not have my business, I can always go and spend my money elsewhere.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Feb-20 20:59:14

Well said quizqueen
?

MerylStreep Fri 14-Feb-20 21:03:55

how many times these leave voters have to get their come uppence, etc

I personally haven't had one come-uppence, yet.
I wanted to leave. I got that.
I wanted a change of Prime Minister. I got that.
I wanted a government with a large majority. I got that.
I want a civil service that is going to work for Great Britain, not against it. It looks as if structures are being put in place to achieve this.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Feb-20 21:10:42

Me too MerylStreep

Sterling hasn’t tanked
Mark Carney admits Brexit has ‘positives’
Eeyore Hammond has gone
Ditto Dominic Grieve, Bercow, Anna Soubry, Chukka and Jo Swinson - sheer bliss!
A cabinet who all want to deliver on the Tory manifesto

What’s not to like?

varian Fri 14-Feb-20 21:14:24

They do tend to be slow on the uptake. Time will tell.
