VE Day is a moment of rememberance and also a reminder of how the EU came about. WW2 cost millions of lives, left mountains of debt, so much so that in Europe esplecially there as a determination that it must never, ever happen again. This milestone though still celebrated has been marred by COVID-19. As our government's handling of COVID-19 unfolds it has become evident that without Brexit the situation would not have been so bad. The Conservative government still seems to be putting Party above Country intent on carrying on with Brexit no matter what. Years of austerity left the country and the NHS ill equipped to cope with COVID-19.
The shortage of PPE, lack of testing ability can all be traced to government influence over the way our economy has been run of the last 50 years. Even after he nearly died of Corona Virus our prime minister still has no vision other than "Get Brexit Done" sending the country into isolationist decline allying with an equally inept US administration. Comparing words of Boris Johnson, Sir Kier Starmer and those of a WW2 veteran it is plain to see the reckless folly of Brexit. Brexiteers are taking a cynical advantage of COVID to progess a no-deal under the radar when protests are stifled due to social distancing.
The nation is coming together to fight Covid but after Covid we need to plan the best future for the nation. That future is bleaker when the prime minister is a puppet of Dominic Cummings and the ERG. Even the Daily Mail hints at recognising this.
