Interesting to see the European country with the highest deaths per capita also having protests against the way the crisis is being handled.

I saw this in the news yesterday but couldn’t help but feel annoyed. I’m not sure how anyone was expected to deal with this when we have never known anything like it ever ? Would another political party have handled it any different ? I don’t know .

Furret Mon 18-May-20 08:42:02

That quite clearly expresses their disgust.

Furret Mon 18-May-20 08:46:35

gillybob well perhaps they could show leadership. The kind of leadership shown in New Zealand, Australia, Germany, South Korea and other countries who have kept their death rates down.

After all leadership is what they signed up for....actually scrap that thought. Boris never signed up for that did he?

Furret Mon 18-May-20 08:47:47

Incidentally in case you didn’t follow the link...it’s Belgium.

Hetty58 Mon 18-May-20 08:48:19

Good for them!

'The PM has previously suggested that Belgium may be over-reporting the actual number of cases.'

Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?

JenniferEccles Mon 18-May-20 08:54:21

Is everyone in every country completely in agreement with how their government is dealing with the virus?

Some in Sweden for example are not in favour of how life there is pretty much carrying on as normal, meanwhile the ban on cigarettes and alcohol in S. Africa as we saw on the news last night, is definitely not universally popular!

I thought the medics in Belgium were very childish in their response.

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 08:57:08

I know it was Belgium Furret as I said I saw it in the news yesterday and my opinion stands.

Hetty58 Mon 18-May-20 08:59:19

Actions speak far louder than words - so it gets the message across.

It's good, in fact vital, that people always question their government's actions and motives, don't you think?

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:00:47

And what about those poor people who are suffering or dying from lack of care by the very same hospitals fighting to save those with CV ?

What are all the other doctors and nurses doing right now ?

I can’t understand why they didn’t use the Nightingale hospitals for what they were intended and keep our hospitals “clean” and working .

Furret Mon 18-May-20 09:02:28

How dare you call front line medics ‘childish‘ when they are the ones putting their lives on the line.

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:04:26

Who called anyone “childish” I’m confused

Furret Mon 18-May-20 09:05:48

I expect ‘all the other doctors and nurses’ are sitting in the staff canteen and having a lovely break from work gillydob!

Furret Mon 18-May-20 09:07:30

Do you only read your own posts gollybbob?

EllenVannin called them childish. Yes, hard to believe anyone could say that I know.

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:08:36

Oops sorry Furret yes I see . I thought you were meaning me.

What Still puzzles me is where was the CV handbook ? Who knew that their response was going to be any different /better than anyone else’s ?

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:12:32

Oh no I don’t think they’re in the canteen at all Furret and don’t be so “childish” as to deliberately change my name .

Many doctors and nurses are at home and taking turns at going in. I spoke to a consultant on the phone last week who was ringing me from home . Also my sister works in the NHS (not nursing ) and she has confirmed this also .

Furret Mon 18-May-20 09:13:44

Actually gilly there was a ‘handbook’. It was our own and was called Cygnet or something like that, commissioned a few years ago that did set out all that needed to be done in a pandemic.

Most countries have their own, Obama even set up a task force to deal with pandemics drawing on respected scientists, epidemiologists, etc. The Orang-utan disbanded it when he came into office.

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:14:04

Oh and for the record EllanVannin DID NOT call them childish . She isn’t even on this bleedin’ thread ! Do you not read the posts properly ?

Alexa Mon 18-May-20 09:14:19

I myself with my old fashioned knowledge of infection control could have handled the care home fiasco better than the the present government.

Furret Mon 18-May-20 09:15:43

I think everyone in the NHS is working to full capacity.

Furret Mon 18-May-20 09:17:58

Apologies to EV I meant JE of course. It is her you should be addressing your horror at. Fair point,

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:20:33

I think you owe EllanVannin and apology Furret .

The NHS is absolutely not working to capacity . The (normal) wards are virtually empty. Very few consultant appointments going ahead .

Hetty58 Mon 18-May-20 09:20:58

gillybab, I don't like the implication that doctors and nurses are somehow lazy - and hospitals are failing the public.

The NHS has been struggling, starved of funds and resources for decades.

The hard work and dedication of staff has compensated to a large degree, but miracles are impossible.

People have voted for that very situation - probably the exact same ones who now complain about it!

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:21:28

X posts .

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 09:23:41

Who said anyone was lazy ? They probably do want to work as usual but are being prevented from doing so, because the powers that be decided to “dirty” the hospitals with CV patients instead of using the Nightingales for what they were intended.
