Apparently they are off for 2 weeks from tomorrow. No worries, not much going on at the momentconfused

EllanVannin Tue 19-May-20 16:28:55

Not daft are they ??

Barmeyoldbat Tue 19-May-20 17:39:47

Bloody disgrace, maybe they could spend their two weeks working on the farms bring in the harvest.

suziewoozie Tue 19-May-20 19:29:04

Absolutely disgraceful - I wonder whose idea this was ?<yes JRM leader of the Commons I’m looking at you >

MaizieD Wed 20-May-20 01:03:22

It's a scheduled recess. Been on the calendar for months (before covid struck). Whitsun break.

Absolutely, Daisymae! Just let everything tick over for a few days ?

vegansrock Wed 20-May-20 04:10:21

Another holiday for Johnson. We see The leader of North Korea more often than our own PM Has he gone part time? As for the Home Secretary - she was wheeled out twice and quickly wheeled back in.

Curlywhirly Wed 20-May-20 06:52:37

Vegansrock ???

Jabberwok Wed 20-May-20 10:31:53

MPs will still be working during the recess from all political partys exactly the same way as tbey do during the summer recess! They don't just pack up and take the phone off the hook for the duration. I doubt they'll be much leisure time during this recess.

Jabberwok Wed 20-May-20 10:36:14

Another holiday? The last one was in January for 10 days after a very gruelling GE! Unless you count serious illness and recovery time as a holiday?!! I guess most of us would feel entitled to at least 4 weeks a year so why not Boris?!!

Sussexborn Wed 20-May-20 10:41:52

With no MPs around to criticize what are these posters going to do with their lives fr two whole weeks..

Do we get two weeks off from the whining and whinging? Too much to hope for?

lemongrove Wed 20-May-20 11:04:42

Oh there’s always something to whinge about Sussex ( on GN)?

paddyanne Wed 20-May-20 11:09:25

Jabberwok is it the norm for PM's to have a holiday after a GE? Its not something I remember from the past .Usually they get stuck into the job they WANTED and should be fit for, both physically and mentally...and Bojo isn't an old man ..well not to me so why does he need all these breaks..
Sussexborn you believe MP's and PM's should be free of criticism? Surely thats a dictatorship not democracy .
I believe every government should be criticised freely and loudly when its appropriate and by heavens I've never come across a government that deserves as much criticism as Bojo and his circus .Whats the death toll today?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 20-May-20 11:44:10

The 10 days recess after the GE was the Christmas break, even with an eighty seat majority the Conservatives could not cancel Christmas!!

growstuff Wed 20-May-20 12:07:29

I'm sure most MPs do work during their recesses. I was a teacher and I know for a fact that I had plenty to do during the holidays, which some of the public didn't understand.

suziewoozie Wed 20-May-20 12:10:45

Sussex we are still in the middle of a national crisis - why on earth would we want Parliament to carry on sitting and hind the Government to account? After all they are doing such an amazing job - why not prorogue and let them get on with it ?

suziewoozie Wed 20-May-20 12:11:10

Hind = hold

Jabberwok Wed 20-May-20 12:15:40

Paddyanne Parliament was in recess when Boris had his 10 days starting on 28th Dec(?) - 6thJan. Other elections are usual!y in October when there is no official recess, therefore no opportunity for a brief break.

MaizieD Wed 20-May-20 19:41:46

And the ten days off in February, Jabberwok?

vegansrock Wed 20-May-20 19:51:45

He needed to sort out his divorce obvs.

MayBee70 Wed 20-May-20 20:48:36

...so he could get engaged...

growstuff Wed 20-May-20 23:05:28

The government, consisting of Johnson and his brown-nosers, has had three months to get a plan for Covid-19 in place.

I am absolutely horrified that that they're still running around like a bunch of headless chickens, lying to cover their backs and blaming just about everybody else , more concerned about their popularity ratings than what would actually be good for the country.

I'm even more horrified that there are people who can't see through what is happening.
