Cosmetic repaint of RAF Voyager plane at a cost of £900,000

Boris Johnson has approved repainting the plane used by the PM and members of the Royal family. It’s to be painted red, white and blue at a cost of nearly £1 million.

Apparently BJ previously griped that it was a dull and boring grey colour and needed brightening up.

Families across the UK living in poverty and struggling to feed their children. Businesses collapsing. The country is on its knees.

Great idea, let’s use nearly £1 million of tax payers money to paint the plane jolly patriotic colours. That’ll cheer them all up.

That's shocking, if it's only cosmetic.

Ridiculous waste of money!

Granny23 Wed 17-Jun-20 18:39:18

Will that not make it a very visible target?

MayBee70 Wed 17-Jun-20 19:02:09

Well, there is a good reason for an RAF plane to be grey but I’m sure Johnson doesn’t think about things like that.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Jun-20 19:02:46

It is also used by members of the Royal Family, they should have waited awhile?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 17-Jun-20 19:04:20

Oh sorry I’ve started another thread I’ll get it zapped.

As I’ve said

So tasteful ???

paddyanne Wed 17-Jun-20 19:17:35

Well ...if Trump has airforce one Bojo wants one too ,after all hes the PM of the countries with the highest death rate jst like the USA.....if its good enough for the Donald...

ladymuck Wed 17-Jun-20 19:18:32

He's making a statement. We are no longer part of the EU.

bluebirdwsm Wed 17-Jun-20 19:23:59

It will be an obscene use of taxpayers money in the present circumstances...so many people trying to keep families fed and bills paid.
What's wrong with just a logo each side of the plane, it would still identify the thing. That would probably a ridiculous amount of money too though, although much less paint and man hours.

MaizieD Wed 17-Jun-20 19:27:23

God, you Brexit lot are crackers.

Being in the EU wouldn't have stopped us painting the plane any colour we liked.

Johnson proves, yet again that he's style, but no substance.

Nandalot Wed 17-Jun-20 19:28:16

I am shocked at the waste of the money but also concerned that the plane has a dual role - it is still in use by RAF. Bright colours are not appropriate and not really wise in a military sense. If it is only going to be a small Union Jack, then that is a lot of money!

growstuff Wed 17-Jun-20 19:28:29

Style? He hasn't even got that! hmm

merlotgran Wed 17-Jun-20 19:30:52

Maybe somebody could have a word in Banksy's ear then we'd get it done for nothing and a hell of a lot quicker.

MaizieD Wed 17-Jun-20 19:31:13

I did hesitate before using the word, growstuff.

The unforgettable image of ZipWire Johnson which sprang to mind 'almost' convinced me that I shouldn't...

MaizieD Wed 17-Jun-20 19:34:05

I think you'd have to pay Banksy a great deal to even flick a bit of paint at it, merlot. Then he'd get one of his students* to do it grin

(*Haven't a clue whether he has students or not. It's just that's what the professional artisits used to do...)

silverlining48 Wed 17-Jun-20 19:38:35

For that sort of money it’s surely a total makeover. Leave it grey fir heavens sake.

What a ludicrous waste of OUR money, better used elsewhere, but why am I not surprised.

Davidhs Wed 17-Jun-20 19:39:51

Is spending nearly a million quid on some paint to tart up a bunch of military planes the best thing Johnson can come up with to distract the masses from his catastrophic premiership? This seems to appeal solely to those who would go out and "defend" statues of less desirable historical figures.

MaizieD Wed 17-Jun-20 19:45:18

Isn't it supposed to be an operational plane for the RAF when not on royal (& PM) transporting duties? It certainly wouldn't be able to do any covert missions...

Kalu Wed 17-Jun-20 20:01:35

Meanwhile, student nurses who stepped forward as frontline aid have been told their services are no longer required and salaries will revert back to a pittance. Despicable. ?

Grannynannywanny Wed 17-Jun-20 20:19:36

Kalu I didn’t know that. I suppose they’ll still be expected to step forward again if we have a resurgence of the virus in the coming weeks.

When an airline repaints a 777 (roughly the same size as an A330) it costs about £80,000. So WTF are they spending the other £820,000 on?

Callistemon Wed 17-Jun-20 20:34:44

you Brexit lot
I don't think one is a lot!

This is at a time that BA are being told they may not be able to use the red white and blue logo on their tail fins.

Now we know why.

Lollin Wed 17-Jun-20 20:40:44

Ludicrous wasre of money. Continue to rub our noses in the dirt

Dollymc2 Wed 17-Jun-20 20:46:58

It's jingoistic
It's Brexit driven
It will probably appeal to the kind of folk who fronted up to 'defend the statues'
What an utter waste of money, when it could be put to so much better use
Words fail me
