Seems Dominic Cummings is starting the changes he said were coming. Mark Sedwell was in charge of FOUR main departments. Surely too much for one man to oversee anyway.

lemongrove Sun 28-Jun-20 12:10:57

There are mixed feelings about Sedwell, according to a friend’s son we know ( who works in one of those depts.)
He seems to be a Marmite character.

But you've no problem with Cummings overseeing the whole of the civil service, and the spads and running the government, Ug?

growstuff Sun 28-Jun-20 12:16:55

Most people in senior positions are Marmite characters. Nobody reaches the top without upsetting a few people along the way.

It's breath taking that people can't see what's happening. How bloody dare they bleat on about democracy and unelected bureaucrats while defending this kind of thing? Have they never studied history?

Fennel Sun 28-Jun-20 12:21:02

Exactly Maizie.
I was just going to make the same comment.

To think we thought this was fiction and only comedy.
Bring back Sir Humphrey sad

lemongrove Sun 28-Jun-20 12:34:04

Am not sure that Sir Humphrey ever went away ( maybe that’s the problem.)?

No as you were, I agree with the first part but I think only the likes of DomCum would see him as the problem.

MaizieD Sun 28-Jun-20 12:43:24

@Fennel grin

Cindersdad Sun 28-Jun-20 12:46:14

The problem is DomCum, unelected anarchist.

growstuff Sun 28-Jun-20 12:51:20

... an anarchist who has already hinted he will walk away and leave somebody else to clear up the mess.

Wake up and smell the coffee!

EllanVannin Sun 28-Jun-20 12:53:09

Just who do these people think they are ?? Obnoxious lot.
Marmite indeed ! Imagine being someone you're not.

Do you mean civil servants? Who do you think they are and what do you think they do?

Good he needs to go and the civil service needs reforming.

MaizieD Sun 28-Jun-20 13:02:45

From the way that former Leavers talk about 'civil servants' I think they're just quoting from the Leavers Script and don't actually know anything about the civil service apart from the fact that it's BAD... because Dom says it is

It would be interesting if the Civil Service were to go an strike, all of it...

Would you like to outline what is bad and what the reforms should be? Firecracker?

That would be very helpful for those of us who aren't quite clear about what is wrong with the CS

People that think the civil service needs reforming haven’t a clue what they are talking about.

Davidhs Sun 28-Jun-20 13:28:00

It’s the civil service who have put all the crazy government ideas into practice, Universal Credit, HS2, Brexit, and lots more. Do away with them and replace them with what - muppets.
That would reduce the wage bill but you wouldn’t like the result

My last comment being to both Maizie and Growstuff

lemongrove Sun 28-Jun-20 14:02:09

There are certainly some on here who think they are superior in many ways, including knowing everything there is to know about the Civil Service.I doubt they really do of course.wink
Nobody is above being sacked/ moved sideways/ retired.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 28-Jun-20 14:09:21

I suppose those who have been employed by the civil service and continue to have contacts at a high level can be assumed to know what they are talking about?
