The FBI has arrested British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, an ex-girlfriend of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
She was reportedly arrested in New Hampshire on charges related to Epstein and is due in federal court later.
She has apparently denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein's alleged sexual misconduct.
Epstein died in prison on 10 August as he awaited, without the chance of bail, his trial on sex trafficking charges.
He was arrested last year in New York following allegations that he was running a network of underage girls - some as young as 14 - for sex. His death was determined to be suicide.

Well, I wonder if this “plot is thickening” ?

I'd forgotten about her. I wonder what will come out now.

Curlywhirly Thu 02-Jul-20 15:18:40

I just wonder how she has managed to hide from the police for so long.

BlueBelle Thu 02-Jul-20 15:19:08

Epstein died in prison very questionable ???
Yes I think the plot may be thickening

Ramblingrose22 Thu 02-Jul-20 15:35:05

I'm glad she's been caught.

She was foolish to imagine that no-one would recognise her and she should have gone to the police voluntarily.

Hiding away makes people look like they've got something to hide.

I hope Prince Andrew gives some evidence eventually.

I didn't see an " end " to this when Epstein died, just the beginning of a very dark and insidious organisation. Maxwell will be watched like a hawk now in case she too takes her seedy life with her.

The plot thickens! It will be interesting to see what she reveals, and about whom, in an effort to save her own neck.

Callistemon Thu 02-Jul-20 15:52:37

It's a start.

I, too, wondered how she managed to hide away for so long.
I think, EV, she will hire the best and most expensive lawyers and try to wriggle her way out of any involvement.

That would be a grave injustice from what we have heard so far.

Riverwalk Thu 02-Jul-20 16:40:17

I'm not sure she's been on the run/hiding all this time - more the authorities have been building a case to bring charges.

Did Epstein commit suicide? I’m not sure how he died.
I hope the girlfriend throws some light on this very unsavoury affair.

So Maxwell is guilty but no trial

Daddima Thu 02-Jul-20 17:38:17

I found the ‘ Filthy Rich’ programme on Netflix very informative ( and disturbing). Ms Maxwell did seem to be very involved with Epstein.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-Jul-20 17:59:44

The Windsor bod must be hoping he can hide behind Mummies skirts.

trisher Thu 02-Jul-20 18:03:32

Anyone want to place a bet on her survival? Or will it depend on how much she is prepared to keep quiet about?

trisher Thu 02-Jul-20 18:05:12

WWMk2 maybe mummy will invite that nice Mr Trump over for a visit and fix things for him.

Anniebach Thu 02-Jul-20 18:05:15

Depend on how much she is prepared to keep quiet about.

suziewoozie Thu 02-Jul-20 18:08:52

Well I hope she’s offered a fantastic plea bargain so she blows the whistle on the dozens of rich/powerful men she allegedly pimped for.

Did Epstein commit suicide? is interesting- from Wikki
On August 10, 2019, American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was found unresponsive in his Metropolitan Correctional Center jail cell, where he was awaiting trial on new sex trafficking charges. After prison guards performed CPR, he was transported in cardiac arrest to the New York Downtown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:39 a.m. The New York City medical examiner ruled Epstein's death a suicide by hanging. Epstein's lawyers challenged that conclusion and opened their own investigation. Michael Baden, who was hired by Epstein's brother to oversee the autopsy, is the most vocal proponent of the theory of homicidal strangulation rather than suicidal hanging.

After initially expressing suspicion, Attorney General William Barr described Epstein's death as "a perfect storm of screw-ups". Both the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice's Inspector General are conducting investigations into the circumstances of his death. The guards on duty were later charged with conspiracy and record falsification. As a result of his death, all charges against Epstein were dismissed, and ongoing sex-trafficking investigations shifted attention to his alleged associates.

Due to violations of normal jail procedures on the night of Epstein's death,[note 1] the malfunction of two cameras in front of his cell, and his claims to have compromising information about powerful figures, his death generated speculation and conspiracy theories[3] about the possibility that he was murdered.[4] In November 2019, the nature of his death spawned the "Epstein didn't kill himself" meme. According to public opinion polls, a plurality or majority of Americans believe Epstein was murder

suziewoozie Thu 02-Jul-20 18:23:44

I could not be further normally from bring a conspiracy theorist but with JE I really believe he was murdered.

25Avalon Thu 02-Jul-20 18:26:31

Finally she has been apprehended. Not little miss innocence. Let’s hope they get plenty of info out of her.

suziewoozie Thu 02-Jul-20 18:33:57

Bet Andrew is really sweating this time?

Riverwalk Thu 02-Jul-20 18:34:09

I haven't read anything in great detail but I'd say it was suicide.

The alleged falsification of records and broken cameras are likely to be the staff on duty not performing regular checks on him, so trying to cover their tracks. Rather like here when we have medical staff re-writing notes after someone has died due to neglect.

Sounds like it happened in the early hours, when people are at their lowest, and night staff at their sleepiest.

It’s politics, UK, France, Australia, America and perhaps other
countries.

Parsley3 Thu 02-Jul-20 19:20:55

It is very unlikely that Epstein’s close friends , Andrew and Maxwell knew nothing at all about his personal life.
Or perhaps they just played board games when they socialised with him.
