It is very good. The one about phone hacking was fascinating.

Yes it is very interesting. He is another one like Prince Andrew who seems to suffer from a bad memory when asked difficult questions. The phone hacking episode was very interesting, we all knew it had gone on but not to the extent where decent human behaviour was completely ignored, it reached the bottom when Millie Dowler’s phone was hacked leading her parents to believe she was still alive. Max Mosley was treated very badly and because he lost one of his sons in the aftermath and because he is very wealthy he offered to pay the legal costs of people who couldn’t afford to take a loss if they lost the court action. Well done him.

We watched episodes 1 and 2 with great interest.
Episode 3 will be interesting as it will cover changes in his empire, as the internet and web begin to impact on print journalism.

I dont think I can stand it. RM is on DH's list of Bees in his Bonnet so he will go on and on. That sounds like a thread- I might do that.

"One of the most gripping moments of BBC’s documentary mini-series “The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty”, was near the end of the third and final part. The celebrated playwright Dennis Potter was being interviewed on television just before he died of cancer. Potter told Melvyn Bragg that he called his cancer – “the main one, the pancreas one” – Rupert, after Murdoch, who was then a mere newspaper proprietor. “There is no one person more responsible for the pollution of what was already a fairly polluted press,” said Potter, “and the pollution of the British press is an important part of the pollution of British political life.” That was back in 1994, long before Sky TV, long before Fox News, long before phone-hacking, long before Murdoch became the most powerful media figure of all time.

We can only guess what Potter would have thought of the corruption and abuse of power that was laid bare over three hours in the BBC documentary – the making and breaking of Prime Ministers and Presidents, the bending of government policy to favour business objectives, the criminal intrusion into people’s lives. Given the way in which the various instruments of the Murdoch empire have attacked the BBC down the years, it was brave of the corporation to commission this series, but I couldn’t help wondering: why now?"

This programme should not be ignored. Rupert Murdoch has influenced who the next PM will be for many years by either supporting or criticising the candidate in the Murdoch media. Blair and Cameron both actively sought his patronage and he championed Farage with Brexit. Watch the programme to find out how and why this happened.
If you are interested in how the political path of the UK has been actively manipulated for years by the ego of a single individual then please watch this programme. It scared me witless.

It used to be all about the Rothschild's once upon a time.

There used to be a law which restricted newspaper ownership, but because Margaret Thatcher was keen to have Rupert Murdoch's support, she waived the rules allowing him to own The Sun, The News of the World The Times and The Sunday Times, and also a major stake in BSkyB .

Murdoch disliked John Major who was pro-EU. The EU were proposing legislation which would have led to Murdoch being taxed, and so he decided to support Tony Blair on condition that the Labour Party promised not to take the UK into the Euro without a referendum.

Ultimately this paved the way for the brexit referendum, after Cameron found favour with Murdoch. As Farage says on the programme "without Rupert Murdoch there would have been no brexit"

Let's just remind ourselves that Rupert Murdoch is not a British citizen. He is not able to vote but votes mean nothing when we live in a sham democracy.

James Murdoch has now disassociated himself from his father's media empire, citing differences of opinion regarding editorial content.

He and his wife are not in agreement with the climate change denial stance of Fox News, or much of the right wing agenda of the Murdoch empire.

In 2016 Murdoch was an enthusiastic supporter of Donald Trump but James and Kathryn Murdoch are now supporting Joe Biden.
