Where's the P.M.? Shouldn't he be in view, not hiding away ?

Look at the disruptions of recent days;
Exam results and fudged response from Education secretary , passing the buck, stretching the truth about when he really knew about the algorithm,

increase in covid figures
;
Migrants in small boats and Patel's response,

News of contract to work on Ofqual awarded to long term associates of Gove and Cummings without tender.

Not removing whip from MP accused of rape.

So it goes on .Surely a P.M worth his salt should give the nation the impression he is in charge. As usual Johnson is nowhere to be seen.

Last I heard he was off on a camping trip in Scotland (turns out to be huge hotel in St Andrews). Can't believe a word he says

Daddima Thu 20-Aug-20 12:20:21

I predict that Boris will resign soon, citing damage to his health by his ‘being near death’ with Covid, and doing so for the sake of his young family.

In other news, polls showing Keir Starmer more popular that Boris.

It's quite extraordinary how he's disappeared!

During the early and mid days of the pandemic when he was noticeably absent it was put down to having been ill and recovering from the virus; but what's the excuse now?

He really is a shirker.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Aug-20 12:36:35

I thought he was on an official visit to Ireland last week?

growstuff Thu 20-Aug-20 12:38:06

There was an ad recently for somebody to be Johnson's public "face", to be his official spokesperson.

If I were Johnson, I wouldn't be accepting cups of tea from Gove. hmm

FarNorth Thu 20-Aug-20 12:38:43

Who cares? He's useless anyway.

Ilovecheese Thu 20-Aug-20 12:39:14

To be fair, I think he spent a few minutes during his current holiday talking to Gavin Williamson on the phone.

growstuff Thu 20-Aug-20 12:54:09

FarNorth

Who cares? He's useless anyway.

He's still worth a few votes to the Conservatives.

A new Conservative leader now would be destabilising, especially "before Brexit is done".

It would appear that there will finally be some kind of agreement with the EU within weeks, but it's not going to be one that's popular with the ERG or many of the people who voted for Brexit.

Why have the records of Liz Truss' meetings with the Institute for Economic Affairs been deleted from the public register? The IEA is a hard-right think tank supported by a number of right-wing Conservative MPs.

UK/US trade talks have stalled for the moment - thank goodness.

My bet is that the "men in suits" will keep him in place until January, then kick him out. A head to head between Sunak and Gove perhaps?

growstuff Thu 20-Aug-20 12:58:47

PS. Of course he should be in view! This country is experiencing multiple crises and we need a leader who sounds as though he knows what he's doing more than at any time since WW2. We haven't got one! Even when he does appear, he seems to find it difficult to speak coherently, never mind even pretending to be honest.

HootyMcOwlface Thu 20-Aug-20 12:59:51

Have you checked your fridge?

Barmeyoldbat Thu 20-Aug-20 13:00:45

I thought I would put in a comment but to be honest he is such a waste of space I can't be bothered.

Jabberwok Thu 20-Aug-20 13:02:25

Oh dear yet another Boris bashing thread!!! IF it's anybody's business, which of course it is not, they are glamping for two nights and spending the rest of their holiday perhaps in a hotel, staying with rellies, who knows?! The comments on here about how Boris spends his summer holiday are more than pathetic and actually no one's 'business '

Marmight Thu 20-Aug-20 13:10:16

Did he actually say he was camping or was that very important snippet gleaned from a ‘source close to the family’ aka the press?

Greeneyedgirl Thu 20-Aug-20 13:10:53

He makes things worse when he is around, I know it’s hard to imagine it could be ? so better he isn’t.
If he goes, does Cummings stay I wonder ?

growstuff Thu 20-Aug-20 13:17:31

Johnson is still worth votes!

FarNorth Thu 20-Aug-20 13:18:50

Jabberwok the OP is not really about the details of Johnson's holiday arrangements but questioning whether he should, in fact, be doing some governing at a very difficult time for the UK.

My view, tho, is that it's a shambles regardless.

trisher Thu 20-Aug-20 13:19:46

What difference does it make where he is? Perhaps the Scots would keep him lock him up in a castle somewhere? But who would that leave? Priti Patel, Sunak, Gove, Hancock or, heaven forbid, Gavin Williamson? You can choose between the incompetent, the ineffective, the two faced and the untrustworthy. The beauty of it is Boris encompasses all of those things!!!

westendgirl Thu 20-Aug-20 13:21:17

I'm sure Cummings will stay as he's such a bestie with Gove .

Jabberwok, don't you think this country deserves something better than this incompetent bunch ? I also think that if you are working for the public then you should expect to be scrutinised.

FarNorth Thu 20-Aug-20 13:22:58

Thanks to a comment by a GN poster, I stopped calling him Boris in favour of Johnson.

It's less 'cuddly' and gives the impression of someone who should be acting like a grown-up and doing a good job for the UK.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 20-Aug-20 13:33:18

There are things called phones, emails and video conferencing, no doubt these have been continuing?

varian Thu 20-Aug-20 13:48:18

Brian Feeney of the Irish News writes-

"Those conned by Boris Johnson now see what a useless prime minister he is"

www.irishnews.com/paywall/tsb/irishnews/irishnews/irishnews//opinion/columnists/2020/06/03/news/brian-feeney-those-conned-by-boris-johnson-now-see-what-a-useless-

I am sorry to disagree with him. If GN is anything to go by there are still many who will never admit that.

Daddima Thu 20-Aug-20 13:57:31

I think there was a mention of camping, but he is allegedly staying at the Fairmont in St. Andrews. I expected him to be at Trump’s place at Turnberry. Still time, as I understand the midges are ferocious this year, especially on the East Coast!

vegansrock Thu 20-Aug-20 14:17:11

I don’t believe he’s camping for one minute. Yes he should be in charge as PM, but as he just lurches from one lie to the next, piling blame on others, he might as well take a permanent holiday. For all her faults, Theresa May did take her job more seriously and had a sense of duty unlike this puffed up oaf.

Urmstongran Thu 20-Aug-20 14:26:05

I like Boris.
He’s had Covid and deserves a summer week off like anybody else.
Plus, he didnt take paternity leave as the naysayers predicted he would when they called him lazy.
