Well done NS for taking a stand over Margaret Farrier MP breaking the coronavirus rules. What a pity that BJ could not have been as principled over Cummings.

Esspee Thu 01-Oct-20 22:43:23

Boris doesn't know what principles are.

MissAdventure Thu 01-Oct-20 22:47:24

That's the kind of stance we should be taking.

Callistemon Thu 01-Oct-20 22:52:22

Yes, well done Ms Sturgeon.

Pity the shadowy Cummings wasn't given the boot.

janipat Thu 01-Oct-20 22:56:44

Oh good, has she sacked her or accepted her resignation? Getting fed up with theses MPs who "regret" their "mistakes".......yes looking at you Jeremy Corbyn too today, can't count to 6 eh? From the word go none of the transgressors caught, from every political persuasion, have seemed to me to show an ounce of integrity or true remorse. Cummings was the beginning, odious man, but none since have covered themselves in glory.

I do remember Ms Sturgeon stood by her chief medical advisor until it became untenable.

janipat Thu 01-Oct-20 22:58:36

*these, goodness knows where that extra s came from!

SueDonim Thu 01-Oct-20 23:05:38

It wasn’t Nicola Sturgeon who ‘took a stand’ on this, it was the leader of the SNP in the HoC, Ian Blackford. NS simply supported his action.

IB came under scrutiny for his lockdown decision-making, too, after condemning Cummings.

MawB2 Thu 01-Oct-20 23:18:06

It seems the only rule these individuals seem to be aware of is the 11th Commandment - Thou shalt not be found out. ?

suziewoozie Thu 01-Oct-20 23:35:19

NS didn’t ‘simply’ support his action. It wasn’t her role to do anything except what she did - to support IB and make clear her views. She’s been clear about where she stands but can do nothing else publicly. I’m sure behind the scenes she and IB are making it quite clear that MF should resign. Imo I think she will before the week is over.

Oh let's not hope for any immediate response. Heaven forfend a politician should make the same immediate response to one of their own that they'd make to any opposition politician! I despair of integrity ever being a foundation of ANY political leader, none of them can claim the higher ground!

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 00:52:11

jan all NS and IB can do re her going is beg her to resign and make it clear she will be permanently expelled from the party. But ultimately it’s MF decision. ( unless she becomes subject to recall). I’ll be very surprised if she doesn’t resign though

LullyDully Fri 02-Oct-20 08:17:22

Time to fall on her sword.

NS did all she is legally able to do within 2 hours of Farrier's statement, and by that time IB had already withdrawn the whip. Seems pretty immediate to me.

Somebody said they'd like to be a fly on the wall when NS spoke to Farrier. I think you would have heard NS from the next street grin

Sparklefizz Fri 02-Oct-20 09:06:21

Corbyn is apparently not going to be fined over breaking the rule of 6.

Sparklefizz Fri 02-Oct-20 09:21:19

Ferrier is worse than Cummings - she travelled on public transport.

25Avalon Fri 02-Oct-20 09:28:55

At least Cummings didn’t go around infecting all and sundry. Farrier, an elected MP, got on a train twice, the first after taking the test and the second after she knew it was positive , and she spoke in the House of Commons. Furthermore she strongly condemned Cummings and demanded his resignation or sacking. She is the worse transgressors of all those who have transgressed. Sturgeon needs to get rid or maybe she is giving Farrier a chance to resign first. Farrier’s constituents want her deselected.

Furret Fri 02-Oct-20 09:37:47

Nor is Stanley Johnson being fined for his flouting of the rules.

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 09:37:57

I wish folk would read the thread before posting.

Sturgeon has "got rid", IB, who is leader of the SNP in Westminster has removed the whip. So Ferrier is no longer an SNP MP, she's independent.

She can't be deselected for this parliament because she's already been elected.

She works for her constituents. If they want her gone, there is a petition process to follow.

Them's the rules ?

Elegran Fri 02-Oct-20 09:43:39

25Avalon Nicola Sturgeon has no authority in the House of Commons over the MP Margaret Ferrier. Ms Sturgeon is First Minister of the members of the Scottish Assembly, She can't "get rid of" MPs in the Westminster assembly.

MF has already been suspended from the SNP, and both Ms Sturgeon and the SNP's Westminster leader Ian Blackford have urged her to resign, but she is there as the elected representative of her constituency, not as an employee of Nicola Sturgeon.

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 09:44:00

The Recall Act can only be activated if she is given a prison sentence of 12 months or may ( won’t happen) or the Standards Committee suspend her from the House for 10 working days or more ( very very likely). Then her constituents can set up the petition. The latter is why I think she’ll resign. IB and NS have done and said all they can atm - but we all know what’s been going on in private ( and quite right too)

janipat Fri 02-Oct-20 09:45:33

Furret has that been confirmed that Stanley Johnson isn't being fined? What about Corbyn, his wife and the other 7 dinner guests, do you know if they've all been fined, as Corbyn won't confirm or deny?

Elegran Fri 02-Oct-20 09:46:30

Crossed posts, Alegrias

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 09:49:11

And constituents don’t deselect MPs - it’s the party members who do that. Constituents elect MPs. Constituents can use tge Recall Act in certain circumstances to recall the MP and hold a by-election. I’ve noticed that for some criticising NS seems to go hand in hand with not having a clue about how Westminster and the devolved administrations work.

suziewoozie Fri 02-Oct-20 09:50:55

I think the MPS are saying they won’t act retrospectively ?
