I believe that most people are giving no thought whatsoever to Brexit at this point. The Covid crisis has made all of working age think of little else but their health and the future of their jobs.
I like so many others was made redundant when the Event industry collapsed in the UK in June as it became clear that there was no chance of any large scale public events taking place in Britain for at least the rest of 2020. Again like so many who were being made redundant, furloughed or hanging on in companies not knowing where the next days work would come from at that time, our only concern was and still is, how we maintain ourselves and our families from one day to the next.
For me holding a class C+E LGV licence and a counterbalance and reach forklift truck licence finding work has been easy provided you are prepared to do manual work and get your hands dirty, which many are not. That work I found by working nights on a casual zero hours contract in what is called an order fulfilment centre run by the worlds largest online retailer. I only mention the above as I find within that centre there are very many who arrived there under similar circumstances to me.
For us and for those in very many similar other workplaces and working situations, Brexit is just another situation that is down the road. In the meantime what our situation will be tomorrow is of far more importance than what any problems may be weeks or months in the future. The coronavirus crisis has changed everything for very many and getting through what that has brought about is the only thing that matters and nothing else.
I feel I am lucky for the awful working conditions makes for great camaraderie in that place and putting one over on the agency bosses that employ us is what keeps us all going on those very long night shifts. As for Brexit, we do not even think about it.
