There are rumours that the U.K. in wavering in its negotiations.

At long last reality is setting in.

A couple of reasons.

It is likely that Trump, who has supported Brexit and promised a “great deal” ?has been defeated. Johnson has lost his only foreign supporter.

Looking at the economic forecast it is grim. Our figures are the worst in the western world at the moment and will take another huge hit if Johnson commits hari kari and goes for No deal.

We’ve long suspected that to be the case.

Someone just said that the days of giving a hearing to untrue statements and outright lies should be over.

They are beginning to refuse to allow the president of the USA to tweet and broadcast lies.

We need to do exactly the same in this country.

Just looking at an article written by Mogg entitled “Donald Trump will be our greatest ally after Brexit”

Hasn’t aged well has it?

vegansrock Fri 06-Nov-20 10:52:36

Biden won’t back anything that threatens the Good Friday Agreement as he has a lot of Irish supporters.

GillT57 Fri 06-Nov-20 12:20:41

The election of Biden ( hopefully, nearly there as I write) is very important for the UK for many reasons. The GFA is cast in stone, as it should be, and Biden is reported to be pro-European. He is also likely to sign USA back into the climate change protections that Trump pulled them out of as part of his isolationist policies.

Any investigation is going to be way into next year before it even starts, then a couple of years to report, the best we can hope for anytime soon is a new PM and a change of tack for the Tory party

biba70 Fri 06-Nov-20 12:34:52

will the Tory party choose a 'real Conservative' or someone even more dangerous from the ERG?

biba70 Fri 06-Nov-20 12:40:19

Johnson and the ERG have gambled the country for personal gain - he looks like a broken man- because he knows that he has lost and has thrown all his cards away. He is going down- and he will take us with him - hopefully we will survive, but its going to be tough, very.

There are some hilarious mock-up videos featuring trump (and one with him and Boris) doing the rounds right now.
I wish I could share them here, but as I have only seen them on WhatsApp, I don't know if it's possible, or even allowed on here. They have really made me laugh ?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 06-Nov-20 14:00:30

Biden looks like being the next president.

This is the worse news for Johnson.

He cannot now depend on support for his brexit stand from the USA.

He can’t depend on a trade agreement

He can’t depend on his support for his action with regard to Ireland.

Johnson is now out on a limb. He has a huge powerful bock to his east and a huge powerful economic block to miles away but no longer supportive.

Expect some panic in No 10.

I believe that most people are giving no thought whatsoever to Brexit at this point. The Covid crisis has made all of working age think of little else but their health and the future of their jobs.

I like so many others was made redundant when the Event industry collapsed in the UK in June as it became clear that there was no chance of any large scale public events taking place in Britain for at least the rest of 2020. Again like so many who were being made redundant, furloughed or hanging on in companies not knowing where the next days work would come from at that time, our only concern was and still is, how we maintain ourselves and our families from one day to the next.

For me holding a class C+E LGV licence and a counterbalance and reach forklift truck licence finding work has been easy provided you are prepared to do manual work and get your hands dirty, which many are not. That work I found by working nights on a casual zero hours contract in what is called an order fulfilment centre run by the worlds largest online retailer. I only mention the above as I find within that centre there are very many who arrived there under similar circumstances to me.

For us and for those in very many similar other workplaces and working situations, Brexit is just another situation that is down the road. In the meantime what our situation will be tomorrow is of far more importance than what any problems may be weeks or months in the future. The coronavirus crisis has changed everything for very many and getting through what that has brought about is the only thing that matters and nothing else.

I feel I am lucky for the awful working conditions makes for great camaraderie in that place and putting one over on the agency bosses that employ us is what keeps us all going on those very long night shifts. As for Brexit, we do not even think about it.

I can assure you Johnson and his Government, are thinking about nothing else at the moment. They have lied and taken the EU for a very long ride- signing an agreement they knew they had no intention whatsoever to honour- breaking International Law. Because they thought they would jump in bed with Trump.

With Trump soon gone - they end up having lost all their allies in EU due to their appalling behaviour and dishonesty- and no Trump either. So the idea that they are not thinking about it now with Covid in the background- is absolute nonsense.

biba70 Fri 06-Nov-20 14:20:32

BArnier and the EU are too- I am very sure-and they hold ALL the cards now.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 06-Nov-20 14:29:45

Yep they do. We have taken back control??????

Sara70 Fri 06-Nov-20 14:31:31

Johnson may be thinking about Brexit especially with Trump losing the US presidency. But, Biden has strong links to Ireland and also strongly supports the EU I believe. His election does not bode well for Britain regarding our withdrawal from Europe if that means a border has to be brought into being across Ireland.

No trade deal with the United States would bring further pressures on the British economy, and in that, even more hardship on the working people of the UK. So, there will be nothing to shout about or celebrate in that.

No trade deal with the EU will be far worse economically. This win by Biden will hopefully stop that in its tracks.

The one with Trump as a toddler having a tantrum as he wont get off the space hopper is hilarious!

biba70 Fri 06-Nov-20 15:27:19

They could agree to go back to Mrs May's Deal, perhaps.

GillT57 Fri 06-Nov-20 15:28:42

So sorry to hear about your dreadful work situation Sara70, you and many thousands of others have months of uncertainty ahead and you have my sympathy, for what it is worth, not much I realise.

Not heard much from our couple of Trump supporters on here yet I notice? What do they think about the current situation, and the current behaviour of Trump?

MamaCaz Fri 06-Nov-20 17:38:32

Yes, that one had me in stitches. ?

Nope...won’t happen.
I think we were always going to do a deal with the EU (and it isn’t over yet.)

lemongrove Fri 06-Nov-20 17:52:34

Gill I don’t think I have ever seen a Trump supporter on GN, who are they?
