Preeti's sitting pretty

The report confirming that Preeti Patel broke the ministerial code with workplace bullying has finally been made public. Boris has sat on this for months. I don't know why I am surprised that she will not lose her job. She appears to be a fully paid up member of Carrie's inner circle. What a right bunch they are.

MawBe Fri 20-Nov-20 12:33:17

Her name is Priti.

MrsThreadgoode Fri 20-Nov-20 12:36:50

Some MPs who aren’t in a ‘circle’ have said that she says what she thinks and has her own robust opinions, maybe the civil servants aren’t used to it?

GillT57 Fri 20-Nov-20 12:39:32

The BBC brought on Ian Duncan-Smith as her character reference; hardly impartial as she was the Sorcerer's Apprentice to him. Why on earth should any of us expect a member of this government to be disciplined, let alone do the decent thing and resign? They are led by a moral vacuum.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Nov-20 12:42:51

I have met people like her in my working life. The worse thing is that tend to pick on some and not others and it creates the most dreadful atmosphere in an office.

They are cruel and divisive.

suziewoozie Fri 20-Nov-20 12:44:06

She’s not even a half decent Home Secretary.

growstuff Fri 20-Nov-20 12:45:28

Loads of sycophantic Conservatives have defended her, including Liam Fox. Both he and Patel were sacked for their dodgy dealings.

Without witnessing exactly what was said or done, who knows the truth

MawBe

Her name is Priti.

I thought that correcting other posters was poor etiquette, Maw?

As for Ms Patel, Johnson has accepted the Barnard Castle defence from her (i.e a lame excuse) that the bullying was 'unintentional'.

To think that we most of us think that bullying in any context is completely unacceptable..

silverlining48 Fri 20-Nov-20 12:49:20

The person who headed this investogation and report, sorry dont have name, has resigned.

Is that a suggestion that she's not as bad as we think?

An independent enquiry found she had broken the code. Ministers have always left their posts after breaking the code. The leader of the independent enquiry has resigned because he has been undermined by the PM.

My money's on her being a bully.

Iam64 Fri 20-Nov-20 12:51:50

Johnson seems to have sat on this report. Priti Patel is one of his appointments, she fits in well, being not very bright and rather unpleasant.
She appears to be a fully paid up member of Carrie's inner circle
What does that mean? Let's focus on Johnson and Patel rather than this need to blame Carrie Symonds.

eazybee Fri 20-Nov-20 12:52:17

Not quite clear about the allusion to the Sorcerer's apprentice; I somehow doubt that the Sorcerer would have given his apprentice a glowing character reference.
Oh, and it is Iain Duncan Smith.

travelsafar Fri 20-Nov-20 12:54:55

It is shameful!!!
Others will now be put off reporting unacceptable behaviour for fear they will not get support required.

What message does it send out to all the poor children who are constantly at the mercy of bullies.

BJ has done himself no favours backing her in my opinion!!!

MawBe Fri 20-Nov-20 12:55:37

I thought that correcting other posters was poor etiquette, Maw?

I have always thought that getting a person’s name right was a simple courtesy.

Iam64 Fri 20-Nov-20 12:57:29

Of course it is MawBe, courteous to get names right.

Johnson seems to be on a roll in the doing himself no favours department.

MaizieD Fri 20-Nov-20 12:58:25

We do have her former Home Office chief civil servant taking her to an industrial tribunal for, I believe, constructive dismissal, soon. It will be interesting to see what comes out of that (and it is to be hoped that he goes through with it and doesn't settle out of court)

It's still rude to pull people up on it. Two wrongs don't make a right...

And to think this happens on a thread about bullying shock

Moonlight113 Fri 20-Nov-20 13:00:46

You have to remember Maw was a teacher. Once a teacher, always a teacher. ?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 20-Nov-20 13:01:41

A man can be forceful and have strong managerial skills.

A woman with a similar skill set is deemed as bossy and bullying.

Perhaps the civil servants were adverse to change?

That Barnard Castle defence is catching on, isn't it?

So teachers have carte blanche to be rude?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 20-Nov-20 13:07:02

I think it is incredibly rude to get someone’s name wrong, intentionally or not.

The polite response to when this is pointed out would be an apology and a request to GNHQ to correct the OP.

Iam64 Fri 20-Nov-20 13:15:51

Come on folks, lets talk about Ms Patel, Mr Johnson, failures in leadership and bullying Home Secretaries, who didn't bully intentionally.

Your sensitivity is aweinspiring, GG13

What if the OP were dyslexic? I thought it was rude, even insensitive, to correct people because they might have underlying difficulties.

(Apologies, Iam64. I know you're trying to keep the thread on track)

Whitewavemark2 Fri 20-Nov-20 13:27:30

There is no such thing as unintentional bullying. It might somehow (how?) happen once, but not more than that.

It is being spun by No 10 just like the Cummings incident.

Treating us like idiots again, but worse the message it must be sending to the civil servants who can’t defend themselves must be destroying their moral.
