Opinions on Joe Biden

I speak to a friend in Minnesota several times a week and today she has asked me what we in the UK think of Joe Biden.

I found this from CNN and it is more or less my opinion but would welcome more opinions before I reply to her.

“On Tuesday night, President Joe Biden joined CNN's Anderson Cooper for a town hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The conversation spanned everything from immigration to White supremacist violence to student loan debt to Covid-19, and Biden struck a markedly different tone than his predecessor. He was polite and empathetic. He was thoughtful, if at times a little rambling. There were no fireworks or insults. It was relatively boring television — and reflective of much better governance.”

I think it is called being a grown up.

I always though Biden was seriously underrated throughout the campaign. He’s proving more radical than I expected but is as calm, sensible and grown up as I expected. I actually think it’s good for us to have a role model like that to remind us what we should aspire to and deserve.

It's early days but it's so nice not to hear or see the Man and his Suntan anymore.

He (Trump) has got a creepy smile too and a very odd way of emphasising things when he speaks. It reminds me of Liberace who loved to simper and smile.

I saw a little of this and thought he came over as a thoughtful man, well educated in the governance of the country who could have a gentle joke without scaring half his country.

He is a breath of fresh, reasonable and measured fresh air.

MissAdventure Wed 17-Feb-21 18:13:53

Apropos of the fact that I know nothing about him, I think he seems a nice, gentle man.

He’s not Trump!!! That’s a major positive imho. He does seem a decent guy though. Am liking what he’s done so far.

CraftyGranny Wed 17-Feb-21 19:13:44

Sorry, but my opinion of that man is not good and definitely unprintable.

He is not Trump which is wonderful. He seems as if he genuinely want to bring people together.

Thank you for your replies I will let my friend know what you have all said.

It is far too early to give a measured opinion, but he seems cautious, sensible and is an experienced politician. I agree with CNN that his speeches are at times a little rambling.

Happiyogi Wed 17-Feb-21 21:44:00

I like that he seems very grounded and is well respected in his home town. He’s low-key, mature, undramatic and has experience of high office.

The absence of chaos, malice and narcissism since he came to power has been bliss.

My first impression was one of a frail elderly gentleman. Shame he’s not 20 years younger. Next time Kamala Harris will be the ideal candidate.

He has two younger, wonderful women supporting him - his wife and Harris.

Why do you say this? He seems to be a polite, well educated respectful man.

MayBee70 Thu 18-Feb-21 19:03:05

I would like a reason to be given for that opinion even if it is unprintable!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Feb-21 19:09:04

craftygran I hope that you don’t believe some of the sillier stories about Biden.

MayBee70 Thu 18-Feb-21 22:58:57

Maybe she’s thinking about him saying that he carried mints around with him so he could pop one in his mouth before kissing any attractive young ladies he might come across. Oh, hang on a minute, that wasn’t Biden was it. Silly me....

I am pleased to have a grown-up back in charge.
First impressions are good but it would be difficult to find anyone worse than Trump.

Kim19 Fri 19-Feb-21 07:30:21

I get the impression that he is quietly starting to get things done. So much remedial work to do after hid predecessors carnage. Find it decidedly refreshing that he's not in the daily headlines. I so hope he succeeds. If rambling is his only fault so far, I'll happily endure that.

NanaandGrampy Fri 19-Feb-21 09:30:32

His twitter feed is a 100,000,000% an improvement on the vague or abusive ramblings of Trump.

nanna8 Fri 19-Feb-21 10:33:28

Early days yet so I don’t really have an opinion but so far he seems more thoughtful and intelligent than his predecessor. I fear he is more likely to start an international war though, possibly against China or North Korea. Wait and see.

Start a war against China ? Oh give over - that’s just silly

maddyone Fri 19-Feb-21 13:00:03

I don’t really have an opinion yet, except it’s a shame he didn’t make it to president when he was younger, he seems a tad old for the job to me.
