Just that really as I obviously wasn't concentrating!

cornergran Wed 24-Feb-21 08:17:51

Nor me kitty. Hopefully someone will have the patience to explain.

I’ve really tried but it’s very complicated. So, sorry, can’t.

Just realised that my phone (which has ideas above it's station) has added an s after my quote mark!! I wish it wouldn't do that!!

Gingster Wed 24-Feb-21 08:24:03

Sorry! Same here

Marmight Wed 24-Feb-21 08:28:04

Sarah Smith explained it very well on last night’s news. However, I couldn’t possibly repeat it - far too complicated ??

Massively, thank you.

It helps if you see past the BBCs Salmond bias though. Makes it more balanced.

Is the BBC pro Salmond or pro Sturgeon?

Casdon Wed 24-Feb-21 09:30:02

I know, it was the only source I could find a couple of weeks ago that went through the situation from the beginning, but I agree, probably not the best source - if anybody has anything better please post it, as I think a lot of people want to understand what’s happening and why.
BlueBelle have you seen something with a clearer explanation that you can let us read?

gillgran Wed 24-Feb-21 09:32:02

Thank You kittylester, I asked myself that question yesterday.
If I had known the answer I would have commented om urmstongran's thread. !
Whatever, the truth of the matter should be known.

Alex said something happened. All Alex's friends agree with him. He says Nicola tried to get him put in jail (honestly, he does say that)

Nicola said it didn't happen. All Nicola's friends agree with her.

Some people hate Alex, some people hate Nicola.

None of us has a clue what happened and I have no idea how this will end.

NellG Wed 24-Feb-21 09:40:11

varian the article felt pro Salmond in tone. But that's just my interpretation.

Aveline Wed 24-Feb-21 09:42:00

See the other thread on this. The whole thing stinks. Why can't the Scottish govt just let Salmond give his evidence? The Scottish Parliament has voted twice to allow this, its been to court now and the judge said there was no reason why Salmond evidence couldn't be given. He was just about to appear at the committee examining the situation when the Crown Office insisted he had to redact sections - the very sections that were at the crux of it.
People are concerned at what's going on. It's all very fishy. If there's nothing to hide why not just let him present his statement. It's already in the public domain.
I'll attach a short article from a retired professor of law.

History, with all the interesting bits taken out then?

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Feb-21 09:48:07

Just for clarity and in response to Aveline's post - its not the government who are preventing Alex from giving his evidence, but as she says its the Crown Office who asked for certain parts to be redacted after Parliament had published it.

Some think that Nicola/the SNP/the Government are exerting undue influence on the independent Crown office.

All I know about him, I was walking down Union Street Aberdeen and saw this sleazy looking guy hanging about outside the Music Hall in Aberdeen (this was about 30 years ago), i glanced at him and thought yeugh! Then I read in the paper Alex Salmond had attended a meeting the Musical hall that day!

MaizieD Wed 24-Feb-21 10:28:55

Where's our Paddyanne? I'm sure she could put her own inimitable slant on this...

(I'm just as confused as everyone else is...)

Aveline Wed 24-Feb-21 10:32:41

It is indeed a confusing mess. All the obfuscation has just made it all look worse and worse.

BlueBelle Wed 24-Feb-21 10:34:02

gwenthegreat what does a sleezy man look like in your memory of 30 years back I can’t remember what someone I knew well from 30 years back looks like let alone a glance?
Sure you’ve not been influenced by the tabloids ?

MaizieD Wed 24-Feb-21 10:50:38

I don't think that Salmond looks any more sleazy than the man currently masquerading as the UK Prime Minister. Mind you, we know that he's sleazy...

Alegrias1 Wed 24-Feb-21 10:54:14

Just said this on the other thread on this same topic. Alex was cleared of all sexual misconduct offences. Whether we think he's sleazy or not, that's not the purpose of this investigation.

Gwyneth Wed 24-Feb-21 10:56:17

Maizie you obviously dislike Boris Johnson which is fine but to say he looks ‘sleazy’ I just don’t get it!

Gwen I admit to being a fan of Alex,30 years ago he was a very clean cut good looking young man.Happily married to his lovely wife Moira who is 17 years older then him.
the amount of abuse he got from unionists about marrying an "older woman" was disgusting .They are still married 40 years this year .
He was also the man who got the SNP most of the way to where they are today.
Nicola was his friend and he was her mentor for decades

.
Despite what someone said upthread, the Scottish Government aka the "crown Office" is not an independent body ,its run by Westminster and operates within the rules and for the Westminster /unionist government who have in very recent times increased their employees from 60 ...thats SIXTY to over 500 and built a new shiny unionist office in Edinburgh clad in Union flags costing hundreds of millions of £. With mainly imported staff.
Lesley Evans ,employee of said Crown Office went after Alex when WM felt he was too big a threat to the union, they had tried to pin something /anything on him for a long
time .
Ms Evans came up with the sexual abuse route ,asked for complains about his behaviour to be sent to her and out of the 400 people she had asked for input from she got the however many ..12 or so? That went to court .They were assured of privacy ,that their names wouldn't be released whatever way it went .
As the accusations were false of course he was aquitted but somewhere along the way he believed Nicola was involved in the whole shebang. She says she absolutely wasn't and I believe her.She wants her day in court the committee wont call her ,she gets dates then they cancel .Its a very sad game with peoples lives.
On the accusers ,none of them left their jobs and continued to work for Alex even after the date they said the abuse occured....some even changed jobs to get back to his team .Their names and any information that could identify them have been redacted on the statement made by Alex .
Now I'm out.
