GB News will attempt to shake up the broadcasting landscape when the news network launches its TV channel in early June.

The news service, spearheaded by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil, has announced plans to go live on Sunday June 13.

In a tweet, the channel said it would launch at 8pm with a special programme, 'Welcome to GB News'.

I can’t wait!
????

Well it’s good to pick out the posters I wouldn’t ever want to meet as we would have NOTHING whatsoever in common
Sounds horrendous, heavily right, Fox type news which Trump was so fond of so far out of my comfort zone that I’d rather eat tripe and onions

Alegrias
Rebekah Brooks is CEO of News UK which is going to be purely digital.
This program is GBNews. Two completely different companies.

Ah, my mistake, thanks Merylstreep

I've just watched a few minutes of the drivel, by the way. Dan Wooton (sp?) is spouting dangerous nonsense and one of the guests coming on is Farage. Part of the superstar panel, apparently.

Seen enough, I think.

It’s a bit ‘clunky’ isn’t it? Too many ads in between sections. But it’s only just opened shop. That said I didn’t want to listen to Alan Sugar taking questions (10pm) so I switched over the SKY news for a news update on the G7 summit. Maybe Dan Wooton’s show is a late night magazine-type slot.

I’m looking forward to a time slot with Andrew Neil. Tomorrow I think, just not sure what time he’s on.

^Michelle Dewberry for one will be focussing on the N.E. Oh save us from this! Winner of The Apprentice who quite the job before her contract period was up. Failed politician. Pro-Brexit apparently. Couldn't we have Scarlett Moffat instead???

Oh please save us from Scarlet Moffat, whose only claim to fame is what, oh yes a ˋcelebrity´. Come on Dewbs.

Gary Gibbon Channel 4 interviewing Boris Johnson yesterday in Cornwall. At last a professional journalist challenging the PM.

Urmstongran Mon 14-Jun-21 07:08:59

Hmm.
I was hoping for neutral news reporting and balanced debates. I was therefore totally underwhelmed to learn there will be no news bulletins, which is a huge mistake because they're not going to draw viewers away from the other news channels without them.

They also made another huge mistake by kicking off with the loud, brash Wooten (3hrs!) hosting a discussion on easing the Covid restrictions where there was a 3 to 1 bias in favour of one viewpoint. It's just the BBC all over again but with things skewed the other way.

Who wants to watch endless talking heads anyway? We're crying out for unbiased news reporting and balanced discussion.

Apparently Farage is on - the poster boy for xenophobia and racism.

Doesn’t take much guessing who their target audience is.

Urmstongran Mon 14-Jun-21 07:42:28

Farage was on last night WW at 9:45pm. He made sense I thought. A breath of fresh air.

Dan Wooten was full of himself though. I kept focusing on those teef! Too white by far.

Carole Malone made good points when interviewed but she’s a bit of a motormouth. I liked the ‘Coast’ guy - the ‘King of Scotland’. Very measured and patriotic.

Alegrias1 Mon 14-Jun-21 07:48:13

I thought hope was on the horizon till Farage was described as a breath of fresh air.

The Coast Guy is a dick.

Sorry, but there you go

It's very disappointing.
Very down-market.
I don't know much about TV, but when new radio stations launch, they start with all the big names on the schedule.
It doesn't look like they could get many presenters interested in the venture. It can only go downhill.
They've made a terrible mistake with that odious oaf Wootton.

FannyCornforth Mon 14-Jun-21 07:52:44

I'm surprised that Farage hasn't got a regular slot. That would be really quite funny.
Uncle Nige was surprisingly entertaining on LBC, before he got the boot!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 14-Jun-21 07:57:05

Just as we’ve got a pound shop Trump for PM, we appear to have ended up with a pound shop Fox News judging by the comments on here and twitter.

PippaZ Mon 14-Jun-21 08:01:39

I doubt the majority will want to watch a shallow and illiberal collection of the anti-woke brigade who only put one side of any argument. However, we have seen in the U.S. just how dangerous to our freedoms and democracy this sort of extreme right-wing propaganda can be so we must beware of those reporting what it comes out with.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 14-Jun-21 08:07:36

Well it will have to up its game it seems. If it doesn’t reach its hoped for viewing audience levels I suspect it will be gone by this time next year. Unless of course there is a billionaire keen to get the authoritarian message over, and willing to pay for it.

As in oh please, not him.

Same here, many I wouldn’t want to meet, as they don’t have the tolerance to listen to other points of view.

who only put one side of the argument
Not what I was hearing this morning. The black woman was advocating not taking the knee, whereas the white male was advocating taking the knee.
Not an opinion that you would ever see on any of the main stream stations.

Sounds all very profound???

Oh, good, I thought that you meant me!
Mind you, I really am surprised that Farage doesn't have a regular slot. He can't have much on, work wise.
Is he now viewed as too toxic / too risky even for GB News?

FannyCornforth Mon 14-Jun-21 08:24:05

? Mind bending!

We watched it last night and again this morning. Very disappointing and we have changed back to BBC. Fortunately Nagga and Charlie aren't on this morning.

I've just been catching up on last week's New Statesman this morning. You know, that nasty, leftist weekly? Read an article by Stephen Bush discussing taking the knee, and its effectiveness. Some parts of the media realise that it's not necessary to set up false dichotomies and cause conflict. Some do that to serve their own ends.

Guess where GB News lies?

Chestnut Mon 14-Jun-21 08:39:17

Lots of judgement here and it's only just started. How about giving it a few weeks to get bedded in before comparing it to other channels which have been running for many years. They may change the format and make improvements.
