From The Times: Britain will launch rockets next year, vows Boris Johnson

Spaceports from Cornwall to Shetland will launch rockets into orbit next year as Boris Johnson promises to create 'galactic Britain'. The Prime Minister insisted that Britain cannot remain 'earthbound' and must seize leadership in the multi billion pound space industry. Chris Smith Whitehall Editor

Is this before or after we complete HS2/Cross rail, build the vanity yacht? It is getting to be increasingly like living through a rather cheesy and unrealistic political drama.

So let's get this straight Janejudge, you have pet circus mice and an astronaut in your house.

I asked for my post to be removed but you've all quoted it now! so I have buggered that up grin

Why withdrawn ?? Official secrets ?

the problem is that if JaneJudge tells us, she will have to kill us all.

I think most of us appreciate and understand the need for investment and research in the space industry Alegrias, it is just the usual jumping to the front of Johnson that irritates me. He is like the opposite of the Midas touch as far as I am concerned, everything he touches turns to s***. I won't use the s word as Lemongrove told me off for that yesterday, even though it was as part of a soliloquoy. grin

I think he just likes dressing up as well. I had visions of him visiting the vaccination centre in a plastic apron in the morning for the booster jabs and then crossing the road to airbus for his space suit moment in the afternoon confused

Yes that’s right. He has not achieved a single successful thing since becoming PM. In fact quite the opposite, and I think people’s reaction that we have seen lately to various shortages is because he is such a lousy leader. No one trusts or believes him any more. Many of us never did from the start because of his history of lies etc.

So this latest announcement that Christmas shortages won’t be too bad can be almost certainly as a signal for people to begin to stockpile.

JaneJudge Wed 29-Sep-21 11:40:56

Yes it's the assertion of it 'wont be too bad' that will make people think it wont be bad for them but it might be bad for us. They either know very well what they are doing or they really underestimate human behaviour.

GillT57 Wed 29-Sep-21 11:43:52

He reminds me of an action man doll with his different outfits. As soon as this hopeless administration say there will not be shortages we all assume the opposite to be true.

I think the thing that irritates me the most is all the smirking. I wanted to punch Grant Schnapps yesterday and I am not a violent person

Taking your mind off the fuel crisis. Apparently "Downing Street feared an early intervention by PM would add fuel to the fire" (today's Times),so they gave him something else to talk about !

I heard someone on the news talking about Ministers sitting in their flag bedecked cupboards telling people everything was fine I guess he meant Shapps, he of the open red box and carefully choreographed book shelf. What a knob

Perhaps Boris could be the first PM launched into space.

^Let’s invest in removing all the rubbish that we have floating round in space^.

How do you do that without going into space?

I'll wait.

Sorry, but you don't know a thing about it and what you're saying doesn't make sense. This is not a fancy space rocket to Mars. Its using near earth orbits to improve things like earth remote sensing. (Which is what it said in Johnson's spiel, if anyone had bothered to read it properly)

My criticisms of the strategy is that it is too little too late and that Brexit has made proper international collaboration impossible. But at least its something.

You tell 'em, Alegrias1!!!!
I knew mentioning Glasgow's pre-eminence in space micro-satellite technology would get you onside.

Now...is there anything else we might agree on?

Alegrias1 Wed 29-Sep-21 18:42:10

Thanks Bodach. Now, let's not push our luck ??

Sarnia - that gets my vote!

Johnson's love of a slogan is causing all this kerfuffle! Global Britain isn't enough for him - or perhaps he is trying to draw attention from the fact that it's not going too well. Galactic Britain has taken its place as his watchword. Or, perhaps, a nice title for a space series on Netflix would be "Britannia Gallactica".

MayBee70 Wed 29-Sep-21 20:37:18

I reckon he thinks up the slogan and then makes everything fit into it. Or tries to.

maddyone Wed 29-Sep-21 20:54:48

I don't know enough about it to add any intelligent comment I'm afraid, but it's interesting reading all your comments.

Good comments.

It’s no good posters simply rubbishing every thing or subject that this government is involved in, that doesn’t make sense.

Some great comments on here. It's a pity that Johnson & Co probably won't see them. If they did I think they'd be surprised given that our age group are apparently more likely to support the Tory party than oppose it.
