Is this a humiliation for Glasgow? ?

Strikes by binmen, piles of rubbish (and rats) in the streets, road-blocking protests and hotel rooms priced at £1,400 a night set to cast shadow over UN Climate Change Conference which starts on 31 October. Maybe it’s a ‘trick’ for Halloween ?

You are very brave Urmstongran I hope you have your Tim hat and plenty of space behind your sofa ??

GrannyGravy13 Thu 21-Oct-21 10:14:27

*Tim obviously should be tin

Yes, it is a humiliation. For the Scottish government rather than Glasgow though.

Alegrias1 Thu 21-Oct-21 10:20:20

To talk about Tim Hats in Glasgow.

Now that is brave.

Granniesunite Thu 21-Oct-21 10:22:17

Alegrias my first real laugh of the day. Love it.

Marydoll Thu 21-Oct-21 10:23:43

I think you may require some body armour Urms, rather than a tin hat, ?

Sorry Alegrias1 I have absolutely no idea what you mean (I have only ever been to Edinburgh and very nice it was too)

Glasweegran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:24:34

Do you feel it would have been any different if it was held elsewhere? This is just the sort of stuff that always happens round any big focus event anywhere.

I honestly doubt those attending the COP will notice any difference anyway, it's just going to be a nuisance for the people who live here.

Glasweegran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:25:27

Given as the Scottish Government haven't been allowed anywhere near the organisation for this I would say it's egg on Westminster's face instead.

Marydoll Thu 21-Oct-21 10:25:28

Glasweegran, I love your user name!

The Glaswegians will know, and most Scots.

That's all it needs, really. grin

Marydoll Thu 21-Oct-21 10:26:34

Good post, by the way!

Granniesunite Thu 21-Oct-21 10:27:52

Me too Glasweigian

Urmstongran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:28:44

No, I think it’s more than that Glasweegran (love your name! Very clever). I’ve been reading several articles about it (different sources).

The Latvian-flagged Romantika has arrived this morning on the Clyde to help with accommodation problems for the summit.

Glasweegran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:29:11

Thank you!

Glasweegran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:31:04

So has extra accomodation never happened at any other event anywhere? There are an estimated 30,000 extra people visiting for this, where do you think they were all going to go?

Granniesunite Thu 21-Oct-21 10:31:09

Sorry I’ve spelt your name wrong.Glasweegran

Urmstongran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:32:31

Anyone need a dormitory?
Congestion travelling into the COP site is not only going to be a major headache, it goes against the ethos of the summit.

I’d pull it & relocate quickly.

That really made me chuckle Marydoll! Any room at yours? Spare rooms for the bigwig’s entourages are urgently needed apparently!

Wait, what?

Relocate it? Aye, that'll work. It starts in 10 days. confused

A Scottish Government (SNP & Greens) spokesman said: “We have been working very closely with the UK Government and partners, including Glasgow City Council and Police Scotland, to deliver a safe, secure and successful Cop26 in November."

Mind you, one thing NS is really good at is a PR spin. ?

Glasweegran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:38:58

While I'm here. Road blocking has been happening in London frequently, and most recently the whole M25 has been closed by anti-vaxxers, rats exist in everywhere, and no-one is on strike as yet. For accomodation, at an Olympics they build a whole village to put up the attendees, and for COP many of the visitors are VIPs needing protection, we don't usually have that sort of cover for our own policians here, far less other peoples. (The First Minister lives at home in a regular housing estate, the Official Residence is only marked by one polis at the door, it's on a bus route in Edinburgh and you can park across the road when going shopping. It's not exactly the White House.)

Urmstongran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:39:43

I know Alegriasbut it’s that bad. ?

Glasweegran Thu 21-Oct-21 10:40:24

Why is that "Spin" I'm sure they have been doing that. The success of it remain to be seen but should not be prejudged.
