Will the Nation accept an apology? Will you?

I won't, for sure.

Casdon Wed 12-Jan-22 13:37:41

It’s naive to assume these leaks are down to Dominic Cummings alone, this is coming from the heart of the Tory parliamentary party. He’s just the gun, not the bullets.

EllanVannin Wed 12-Jan-22 13:39:28

BJ hasn't been hard enough in my estimation.

Dinahmo Wed 12-Jan-22 13:42:32

No - apology not accepted.

I've been wondering about all the Tory MPs who've popped up on the media to respond to questions about Boris resigning. Refusing to acknowledge that we don't know if he's done anything wrong despite being informed about the rules that were in place back in May. Perhaps they could be de-selected?

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 12-Jan-22 13:42:48

I agree with MOnica.

We are being manipulated by Dominic ,Cumming who releases drops of information to tarnish the prime minister.

Do we know that this has come from Cummings?

MayBee70 Wed 12-Jan-22 13:48:37

Does it matter where it comes from if it’s about true illegal events?

I'm not sure. Someone leaked the email. It 'may' have been Cummings, who was still in post at the time, but would he have been a recipient of the email?

He has certainly blogged that he advised against the party at the time, so he was aware of it.

It's laughable to think that Cummings is the only person who could 'tarnish' the PM. He was heavily tarnished before he even became PM.

Casdon Wed 12-Jan-22 13:52:08

Yes MayBee70 it does matter very much where the leaks come from, because we need to know the extent of the corruption. Boris will be desperately seeking scapegoats.

Wheniwasyourage Wed 12-Jan-22 14:07:15

Apology not accepted. He must think our heads button up the back if he thinks we will accept it!

Zoejory Wed 12-Jan-22 14:08:31

I've just read this rather over lengthy blog of Cummings with regard to these parties.

He disputes that most of the reported parties were parties at all.

It was very common for them to work outside. They would be there late. They'd be milling around discussing work, especially when the weather was good.

As he points out it was far better to conduct work outside due to a large amount of people being inside causing more problems.

However this party with the email was a party that he was opposed to.

As for Boris, I thought he'd have gone by now but I'm beginning to think he might just get away with it.

PS Not a Boris fan, not a Conservative and yes, I did lose a family member in April 2020.

It's quite an interesting article, no matter what you think of Cummings

Shouldn't they all pay a fine? How much was it? I have the notion that it was up to £1000. (Money to go to NHS?)

MaizieD Wed 12-Jan-22 14:12:44

He disputes that most of the reported parties were parties at all.

Like he disputed that driving 250 miles when suffering from covid was wrong?

He was probably at the parties he claims weren't parties, like the one he was photographed at...

I would take Cummings with a pinch or two of salt.

FannyCornforth Wed 12-Jan-22 14:13:20

It doesn’t matter, as he’s clearly on borrowed time

Zoejory Wed 12-Jan-22 14:15:21

I just thought it rather interesting, MaizieD

In the blog he does say that he was photographed in some of the photos that the media called parties. He pointed out that they often worked outside.

He's certainly not sticking up for Boris Johnson in that blog!

Esspee Wed 12-Jan-22 14:23:52

NO and NO!

Juicywords Wed 12-Jan-22 14:35:45

No, no, no. Lies, more lies, incompetence and corruption.

Yesterday he told us the supersize p.ss up in his garden was a work event. Do BJ and his government do anything other than party?

Nothing less than immediate resignation will cut it.

FlexibleFriend Wed 12-Jan-22 14:43:05

I really don't care but I do resent journalists reporting every word that Cummings chooses to whisper in their ears. I bet Boris regrets trying to defend his arse, horrible little weasel has got them all dancing to his tune.

tidyskatemum Wed 12-Jan-22 15:04:25

“I accept full responsibility” always translates as “I am wriggling out of this as soon as I can find someone else to blame”

Hetty58 Wed 12-Jan-22 15:08:16

I like to think the best of people - so really can't believe 'the nation' will see an apology as appropriate or sufficient - let alone accept it.

Kali2 Wed 12-Jan-22 15:09:54

Wheniwasyourage

Apology not accepted. He must think our heads button up the back if he thinks we will accept it!

Seems the reaction is pretty anonymous.

But thanks for this Wheniwasyourage- never ever heard this expression- love it 'he must think our heads button up at the back' - lol - indeedy.
Whether it was Cummings or not that leaked, and whether we like, trust, hate, Cummings or not - makes absolutely NO difference to the facts. Johnson lied (surprise? not) and he was there. Nothing else matters at this stage.

Hetty58 Wed 12-Jan-22 15:10:25

How about some heavy fines for breaking the law - just like those doled out to 'little people' ignoring the rules?

Kali2 Wed 12-Jan-22 15:12:41

peanuts for the likes of them - and they would get their even richer mates to pay for them. But yes!

In many countries, fines for speeding, dangerous driving, etc, are proportionally linked to income- now that would be great.

wendyann23 Wed 12-Jan-22 15:13:57

Absolutely not. An honourable man would not break the rules he was imposing on others.

Deedaa Wed 12-Jan-22 15:15:52

I saw a nice elderly lady on TV this morning, she looked very much an ideal Tory voter and she was very calmly explaining how much she now hates Boris Johnson. I wonder how much damage he has done to the party's grass roots.

VioletSky Wed 12-Jan-22 15:16:23

No

Not even if he did it in person, at a party he threw in my honour, at his own expense and not the tax payer's
