Where was the Queen on 4th April?

Can anyone please help settle this?
I know there are Royal watchers on Gransnet. I have a German girl staying with me who was recently in London and thinks is sure that she saw HM in a carriage. Other people "saw" her too
I dampened her spirits by saying it was doubtful as HM is at Windsor recovering from Covid.
Ofcourse she could be right. Is she?.

Calendargirl Tue 19-Apr-22 17:29:28

I doubt if she would have been in a carriage, as I understood getting in and out of a car was not easy for her now.

I doubt if jolting about in a carriage would do her much good,

But then, I may be wrong.

It sounds unlikely but if it gives the young lady pleasure to think she has seen the queen I would leave it.

Joseanne Tue 19-Apr-22 17:58:29

Tell her, du hättest zum Apollo Optik gehen sollen. Joke! ?

I doubt it too.

Let her believe it - don't burst her bubble ?

The Times used to publish the court circulars, or extracts thereof, which would indicate the whereabouts of HM on any particular day. Not sure if this still happens though. Someone might know…

Could it have been that it was either the coach carrying the documents for the Queen to sign from St. James' Palace or an Ambassador on their way to be presented to the Queen?

OakDryad Tue 19-Apr-22 19:19:44

The Court Circular does not show any engagements for The Queen for 4 April 2022.

That weekend, The Queen hosted a small family reunion party outside in the grounds of Frogmore House, Windsor attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children, Princess Beatrice and her daughter Sienna.

During the week, in person ceremonies were carried out by The Prince of Wales, The Princess Wales and other representatives on behalf of their mother. The Queen herself conducted other engagements via video links.

It isn't impossible for her to have been in London on that particular day but it wouldn't have been in a carriage.

I'm wondering if your vistor might have seen some filming for TV series The Crown or some rehearsals else she would have notice cameras. Just a thought.

OakDryad Tue 19-Apr-22 19:27:12

It's got me thinking. I've been reading about Ella Slack who is The Queen's stand in. The two are similar in height and stature. Ms Slack she acts as a body double of sorts during rehearsals for royal events.

If her glasses were German made, then the young lady would have had perfect vision! I always choose Zeiss lenses for sharpness, the quality is amazing. Perhaps she was right!

Grammaretto Tue 19-Apr-22 23:59:54

Thanks! Filming sounds plausible. I asked her again what she saw:
It was a horse drawn carriage with a top.
She admitted she didn't see Hm's face. There were police around but not all that many. It was somewhere near Westminster/ St James park. a park

She saw the Queen.smile

I was on a bus once around Trafalgar Square and we were held up for ages while a police convoy came past and a big black limo type car with HM in it wafted past. The bus passengers moaned and waved in about equal numbers. Also was held up near Harrods when a big black range rover was waved through with motor bike outriders while Kate Middleton that was was ferried past.

Another plus about being royal! The world smells of fresh paint too for them, no traffic queues, wardrobes full of beautifully tailored clothes in expensive fabrics and no worries about heating bills. Lovely upsides. I still don’t envy them though, I’d hate for me and my family to be so heavily scrutinised.

Grammaretto Wed 20-Apr-22 08:53:25

Thanks Urms for the Torygraph's Royal rundown. It can be useful at times.

I agree I don't envy the Royals one bit.
We all have dirty washing in our family trees don't we? but most of ours remains buried.

I shall tell my German girl it could have been a film being made and she will be excited about that.
Now to tell her the Royal family are German............

Oh, I don't know!

Apparently here were buckets a-plenty in Buckingham Palae to catch the dripping rain coming through the leaky roof.

It's not all sunshine and posh clothes being Royal, you know ?

Just for fun, are you sure your visitor wasn't on a trip round Madame Tussaud's? The Queen's likeness there is very strong.

Petera Wed 20-Apr-22 13:44:18

I believe that she and Elvis were visiting Shergar in Lord Lucan's stables.

Grammaretto Wed 20-Apr-22 13:48:49

Petera grin

Grammaretto Wed 20-Apr-22 13:54:19

I told her about the German heritage and now she is surprised I know so much and thinks I am obsessed with the Royals!

I wonder how George V and his cousin Kaiser Bill could have changed from being childhood pals to being arch enemies for the devastation that was the first world war.
Perhaps the Royals, and certain politicians, are really not like us. It's that blue blood.

Joseanne Wed 20-Apr-22 14:05:04

You can tell her that the Queen likes sipping a sweet German wine with her supper too.

(I'm not sure that she eats Wurst though).
