Nero fiddled while Rome burnt

The current cost and living crisis is set to get worse over the winter and where are our politely leaders. Boris, still our current PM, has been partying and is now on holiday as is the Chancellor whilst Sunak and Truss engage in the Tory party beauty contest. No chance for Martin Lewis’ plea for the current PM and both prospective leaders to get together and ‘sort it out’ before the next energy price hike.

Should read political leaders definitely not ‘politely’

Fleurpepper Sun 07-Aug-22 17:27:05

Beyond belief.

Unfortunately not beyond belief! I fear for our children and grandchildren. It’s all coming at the same time - climate change, war and economic disaster. If only we could do what Liz said about Nicola and just ignore it all!

This government are an utter disgrace. Gordon Brown was on the radio today saying Parliament should be recalled - but wait of course they are all on their hols. Who is at the helm leading this country currently - I think we have a ghost ship.

Yes, I've had a good innings. But I so feel for the young ones, and even more so, quite naturally, for our teenage grand-children.

How Johnson and the Government can just go off on their jollies and leave this mess behind, and ahead- is just disgusting and utterly irresponsible.

MaizieD Sun 07-Aug-22 17:44:48

I'm really surprised that anyone should be surprised that Johnson is doing his usual trick of ignoring problems until forced to take action.

I rather suspect that he has now washed his hands of being PM and intends to lounge away his remaining few weeks enjoying the perks.

dolphindaisy Sun 07-Aug-22 18:24:46

What about the Deputy PM? haven't heard a thing from him for ages even though he insisted on retaining the title . Just who is running the country at the moment?

varian Sun 07-Aug-22 18:25:32

Neither Johnson nor any of his ministers could hold a candle to Gordon Brown.

A man of principle. So unlike any of the current lot.

You can't expect any action in August, the holiday month. Things will start moving again in September.

It’s a good job the rest of the public services don’t take that attitude or the country would grind to a halt. Whoops sorry you may be homeless, or have broken your leg but we don’t care, it’s August and we’re on holiday?

Come on now, that’s not good enough.

BlueBelle Sun 07-Aug-22 18:37:35

Like you varian I thought Gordon Brown was a man of integrity but he didn’t have enough ‘charisma’ everyone says
Who needs charisma we need a pair of safe honest hands but that appears an impossibility

What nonsense. Would you say the same about doctors, firefighters, and more? The country faces a massive crisis- many cricises in fact- somebody should be in charge!

Here's the latest on Dominic Raab (deputy PM & Minister for Justice).

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11088219/Trans-prisoners-barred-womens-jails-strict-new-policy-proposed-Dominic-Raab.html

Following high-profile sex scandals involving trans prisoners, Justice Secretary Dominic Raab plans to implement a new policy whereby Ministers have to sign off any move to a women’s prison of a male-bodied inmate who self identifies as a woman.

The Government would also have the power to order the removal of transgender prisoners from jails.

Jacob Rees Mogg would be the one to ask as he's Minister for Government Efficiency, (as well as for Brexit Opportunities).

According to today's papers Mogg would be too busy to answer any questions as, at this time of crisis, he's putting all his attention into trying to stop people working flexitime in the civil service. Another one fiddling while Rome burns.

Johnson, Sunak, Truss, Mogg....they're hopeless aren't they.

Minister for Government Efficiency? That's an oxymoron if ever I heard one.

Isn’t that the ‘minister for getting rid of as many civil servants as possible’ as long as it doesn’t affect his own department?
