After all they dont EVER have a good word to say about us ...and that includes their unionist "SCOTS" who it seems are delighted to tell us that we cant do anything right

Answers on a postage stamp ...or a postcard if you can find a true reason

Nothing to do with politics or anything like (thankfully!!) - but Mr BA and are currently celebrating my 60th birthday in a remote cottage on the northern coast of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🦌🍾🍾. Everyone who we've met in any context have been lovely and welcoming people - so pleased to see visitors to their area at this time of year. Oh and we got married last year in Gretna Green. Just letting everyone know how we all should be able to get on with each other 💗😊

Using capitals when you’ve been told in social media terms it’s yelling and going on doing it shows disrespect to all posters.
If it’s been going on for years on here it’s time paddyann54 just stopped it.
We need another ranty thread about Scotland and referendums? Like a hole in the head.

DaisyAnne Sun 27-Nov-22 09:16:51

Time to cut down on GN I think.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Nov-22 09:17:42

Lovely post BladeAnnie wishing you a very happy 60th birthday 🎂🥂

I have only visited Scotland once, I felt welcomed and comfortable wherever we went.

I'll keep commenting on the WM government detrimentally because I live in the UK and WM is my government. I won't be commenting on the Welsh parliament. The Welsh can run their country as they want, I don't know their situation very well and its not my place to say anything about them. Or the Irish. Or the French, or the Gabonese, for that matter. Not my circus, as someone said above.

If anyone wants to comment on the Scottish Government, take a pop at the centralisation of the Police Service. Or the rather flaky proposals for currency after independence. And the FM? Please don't think that talking about her stature, appearance or accent is sensible political comment.

But give it a rest with the blooming ferries. Maybe take a look at London's Elizabeth Line and Bond Street station instead? Wee bit late. Not a great example of budgeting.

And bridges. Queensferry Crossing is not a disaster, no matter what anybody tells you. (Aye, bee in my bonnet about that one.)

And industry. Call out anybody trying to tell you we don't have any. I worked in it. Maybe I just imagined that.

But do try to avoid random accusations of fraud and silly name calling. And do try not to get all affronted when a couple of people don't act the way you want them to.

Grantanow Sun 27-Nov-22 09:49:05

To protect the Scots from the economic catastrophe of independence. Brexit was a magical solution to the UK's ills: independence is a similar magical solution - at least for the SNP - for Scottish domestic failings.

Kandinsky Sun 27-Nov-22 09:52:34

I'm not keen on English people either and I am one

What is an ‘English person’
Someone from:
Manchester? Liverpool? A sleepy village in Somerset? Cornwall? Birmingham? Surrey? A vibrant London borough?
Because all these people will be different.

Genuinely interested.

Oh thank you yer 'onour. Ever so grateful we are.

What would we do without our lovely paternalistic neighbours helping us out, all for entirely altruistic reasons, I'm sure.

Maybe take your own advice Volver? If you truly want to engage in serious debate, try accepting that some have a different viewpoint to you and stop resorting to sarcasm and childish retorts to perfectly reasonable posts.

volver Sun 27-Nov-22 10:18:49

I know.

You're right. Well not about the "perfectly reasonable posts" bit, but anyway...

I'm pushed beyond the limits of normal sensible behaviour. 🤣

What would you like to debate seriously?

I think the responses only say that they’re fed up being shouted at - by anybody, about anything!

I think most long term posters, which includes some responders, are perfectly used to paddyann's style by now. No need to be rude to her...

Hear hear but it is the go to response for some.

It is the go-to response by some and it always gets worse when we have had our wooden spoons out just before Christmas and NS has had her big wooden one out about Independence.
The pressure and tensions are getting to us all.

Yammy Sun 27-Nov-22 10:23:37

MawtheMerrier

Are the SHOUTY CAPITALS Saturday night capitals?

It's "Saturday night FEVER" Maw,only it lasts most of the week.

volver Sun 27-Nov-22 10:23:41

NS represents the voting public of Scotland. Not all of them individually, but enough of them to create a majority in the Scottish Parliament, along with coalition partners the Scottish Greens.

We gave her the spoon and asked her to stir.

JaneJudge Sun 27-Nov-22 10:26:24

How does it bother anyone that doesn't live in Scotland though? Surely Scotland can decide for itself?

MaizieD Sun 27-Nov-22 10:30:04

Grantanow

To protect the Scots from the economic catastrophe of independence. Brexit was a magical solution to the UK's ills: independence is a similar magical solution - at least for the SNP - for Scottish domestic failings.

The 'economic catastrophe' is a very debateable concept. There are no accurate assessments of Scotland's economy by which to judge. It is claimed that figures produced by the Treasury are mainly a mixture of guess work and 'interesting' cost allocations. Who is to say that those making these claims are wrong? We certainly can't.

TerriBull Sun 27-Nov-22 10:30:04

I don't think you are anti English Volver, you sometimes come across as an arbitrator of what people can and can't say, for example on numerous occasions I've seen you post this "you don't get to say that" usually as a riposte to someone English commenting on independence even if like me, they think that is entirely up to the Scottish people to decide. If you make such a statement too often you can expect it to be batted back to you, especially regarding facetious posts.

I know so many grievances are historical, some ongoing but why do I feel that these types of threads are a subliminal attempt to have a go, as if we here in England have collectively morphed into a nation of "Hammers of the Scots" or maybe that's how we are collectively viewedhmm

I'm afraid this thread started with a very definite 'have a go' at the OP. It hasn't really moved on from there in either direction.

Baggs Sun 27-Nov-22 10:34:47

I think it sometimes bothers people who don't live in Scotland because they've grown up with the idea that although Scotland has a character of its own (much admired across the world), for everyone alive today in Enlgand, Scotland is not a separate country. It's like another Yorkshire wink. (Quick ducking movement here!). It's part of the wonder that is Great Britain.

Just as Yorkshire people think Yorkshire is God's Own Country, Scots and non-Scots think Scotland is God's Own Country and that's why they want to keep it as part of their country.

I've lived and worked in various parts of Scotland and England throughout my adult life (still do). When I lived in England I missed Scotland because of its specialness.

I'd be sorry if I needed a passport to travel between the two.

Likewise for Wales.

My family is a mixture of all the types of Britishness, plus some Irish.

Baggs Sun 27-Nov-22 10:36:13

It has now.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Nov-22 10:36:24

I think the clue is in our collective name United Kingdom, JaneJudge I wouldn’t like to see it breaking up.

I worry about another hard border we already have one with NI and Eire imagine the problematic situation if an independent Scotland was to get its wish and join the EU, passport controls along Hadrians Wall?

If that is what Scotland votes for so be it.

Baggs Sun 27-Nov-22 10:37:22

Scotland did vote.

Baggs Sun 27-Nov-22 10:37:45

Scotland voted to stay in UK.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Nov-22 10:39:01

Baggs

Scotland voted to stay in UK.

I know Baggs

I can only hope that when the next referendum occurs it’s the same result.

loopyloo Sun 27-Nov-22 10:41:32

It's the United Kingdom. Ie a union of different countries.
Or should I say
UNITED KINGDOM.
England wouldn't be England without Scotland .
And GN wouldn't be the same without a ranty thread or two.
Thanks to all who post!!!

volver Sun 27-Nov-22 10:44:04

I have to go to Tesco's so I'm just popping on, and I will post more fully later. (Sorry that may sound like a threat!)

passport controls along Hadrians Wall?

This is a great example of what ges to me. Hadrian's Wall in in England. So our need for independence is reduced to a joke about the Romans.

I keep thinking about that film, "Network", from many years ago? I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.

To be continued..... wink
