What do Grans think of Boris Johnson putting forward his father for a lordship .

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 06-Mar-23 10:21:08

You mean a peerage.

Grandmabatty Mon 06-Mar-23 10:22:53

Nepotism at it's lowest. Stanley Johnson who broke his wife's nose, who has done nothing worthwhile to aid the country. On a par with giving a russian a knighthood.

MawtheMerrier Mon 06-Mar-23 10:23:54

It’s not a lordship or even a peerage, but a knighthood.
Still barefaced cheek though From The Guardian
Anger over reports Boris Johnson seeks knighthood for ^father
Former prime minister accused of ‘discrediting honours system’ with long-delayed resignation list

Boris Johnson has been accused of having “discredited the honours system” after it was reported that his long-delayed resignation list includes a knighthood nomination for his father, Stanley Johnson.
Previous reports have suggested Johnson could also be considering honours for his wife, Carrie Johnson, and his sister, Rachel Johnson. As prime minister he made his brother, Jo Johnson, a peer

Blondiescot Mon 06-Mar-23 10:24:31

Personally I think it's high time the whole honours system was abolished. I have no problem with ordinary people being rewarded for going above and beyond the call, but this old boys' network is a relic of the past and should be left there.

Wyllow3 Mon 06-Mar-23 10:25:25

Quelle surprise, huh? Nothing shocks me any more about Boris' nepotism.

Casdon Mon 06-Mar-23 10:29:42

I guess the only surprise is that he didn’t nominate himself.

Doodledog Mon 06-Mar-23 10:35:30

It really does devalue the whole honours system.

Boris Johnson sought to shower titles on family and favourites as though he were an elderly Henry VIII, giddy after a new marriage

maddyone Mon 06-Mar-23 10:46:22

I don’t agree with the honours system at all, for anyone. Cronyism has been evident throughout the system for years. It’s abhorrent.

Wyllow3 Mon 06-Mar-23 11:09:45

Its a shame, maddyone because honouring people who have made great contributions to our communities is worthwhile, but I don't know how we could separate it off. Perhaps a change in who makes the decisions?

foxie48 Mon 06-Mar-23 11:34:06

It's an absolute disgrace. I still want to know what Boris was doing in Italy, whilst he was Foreign Secretary, at a private party, without his aides, given by an ex KGB agent, Alexander Lebedev and why he gave an honour to the ex KGB's son. I find this much more worrying than his nepotism.

It should surely be possible to devise a system whereby people like that could still be honoured in some way.

😂😂😂

Don't say that when I'm drinking coffee!
Actually, it's not funny in the slightest, it's preposterous.

The people who make enormous contributions to society, perform acts of bravery etc are sometimes rewarded with a BEM, MBE, OBE and whilst the word Empire is outmoded and perhaps should be replaced, it is an honour of which they should be deservedly proud.

The other rewards are often questionable and are often party political posturing or to place their cronies in the H of L for political gain.

Dinahmo Mon 06-Mar-23 12:04:49

There's a rumour that he's also nominated Wilfred for a peerage!

Spot on!

Happygirl79 Mon 06-Mar-23 12:27:36

The obvious problem with Boris Johnson is that he can clearly be bought for the right money by anyone!

Toddlers in the House of Lords. Now there's a novel idea grin

Bridie22 Mon 06-Mar-23 13:28:12

What no honour for Larry the cat ? He has endured so much 🤣
Boris is an embarrassment, and how can he be allowed to do this whilst still under investigation?

BlueBelle Mon 06-Mar-23 13:35:30

This the man (Stanley) who used to hit his wife and I believe broke her nose at one point

The whole thing stinks, angry at even the thought of it
I agree with those that say abolish the stupid outdated system

Find a different system to honour ordinary people that go above and beyond but stop this nonsense it’s an insult to the country

Grantanow Mon 06-Mar-23 13:39:09

Typical of the outrageous buffoon. I'm surprised he didn't nominate Larry the Chief Mouser for a knighthood.

Smileless2012 Mon 06-Mar-23 13:43:44

Ooh let's not tempt fate Grantanow.

Oldbat1 Mon 06-Mar-23 13:49:48

Why why why is a failed and disgraced Prime Minister even nominating people for “honours”. It is totally corrupt and the whole House of Lords needs disbanding! Saddened.
