Will Johnson senior get his knighthood?

THB it didn't seem that surprising that Johnson put his dad up for a knighthood. Just wondering if he has enough clout to pull it off. What do you think?

FannyCornforth Tue 07-Mar-23 10:34:05

No. Because of his treatment of his wife Charlotte.
He regularly hit her and broke her nose, which she was hospitalised for. Boris witnessed it.
If he is knighted well, I can’t express how disgusted I will be.
But after Sir Gavin Williamson, I suppose nothing would surprise me

Will he? I hope not. The list of Johnson’s on the Boris list is a not very funny joke. He is a disgrace.

Fleurpepper Tue 07-Mar-23 10:45:25

He refused to wear a mask during the Covid pandemic, and flew to his house in Greece when it was not allowed. Many people have holiday homes abroad and did not use them as an excuse.

Who can stop an appointment btw?

MaizieD Tue 07-Mar-23 10:46:56

I expect he will.

All proposals are scrutinised by an honours committee. It's not clear, though, whether the PM can ultimately block a recommendation for an honour. I'd like to think that Sunak could block this particular onegrin

Can the Monarch block it?

It's not very clear, Fp, but see the link I've just posted.

Is it real or a spoof?

Please tell me the latter.

Can the Monarch block it?

I suspect not. It would probably be constitutionally very unsound.

Callistemon21 Tue 07-Mar-23 10:52:27

He could advise very strongly, perhaps.

So what has Stanley Johnson done to even deserve a knighthood? is it just a case of that Boris is never going to get one he's going to make sure his dad does? The whole honours system is a joke with knighthoods and medals being dished out like sweets. Oh and can anyone tell me exactly why Gavin Williamson got a knighthood?

Baggs Tue 07-Mar-23 11:41:35

I think we should wait and see. What's the use of speculating?

I think we have far too many people in the HOL already, but that's a separate issue.

Blossoming Tue 07-Mar-23 11:50:59

I think it’s telling that neither Gordon Brown nor Tony Blair had a resignation honours list. They knew it was a load of nonsense.

CoolCoco Tue 07-Mar-23 12:03:59

A knighthood? For services to what exactly?

Baggs Tue 07-Mar-23 12:19:39

Wiki says Stanley J was an MEP once.

And then of course he should be rewarded for producing Boris. I'm sure you all agree about that 😜

According to DH he also said the other day ( after that tv guy was injured whilst cycling to work)that he would continue to ride his bike without wearing a helmet or fluorescent clothing. Both he and his son seem to be opposed to anything that they regard as being part of a nanny state. They seem to regard themselves as being omnipotent. Anyway, he doesn’t even live here now does he? I thought he’d moved to France.

And he’s acquired French citizenship…

Here is a petition against his Knighthood

To be fair, he is and has been a very good campaigner for the environment, before it was ‘a thing’

Got in there before Brexit... no thanks to his son

Signed and shared. 10s of 1000s of signatures in a couple of days would send a very strong signal.
