Brexit all done and dusted?

I don't think turning back now is politically acceptable. As the country is split, half of the population would be in revolt.

I think it's a waiting game. We need to be vigilant about the way the government wants to make a bonfire of EU regulations and challenge them. It would be helpful if we had an effective opposition.

As people see that there are no solutions which will satisfy the majority of them, they might very well be gagging for a second referendum in 18 months.

People need to change their own minds rather than having solutions imposed.

It's a mess, which could have been avoided!

Until things start happening, we are still not much further than "talks about talks" all of which amounts to little more than conjecture.

Maybe not, MB, but the other ones will be full up soon and the fallout from Brexit isn't going to go away. It really isn't all done and dusted, whatever Leavers like to think. Negotiations haven't even started, so we haven't even seen the damage yet.

I think it's fascinating to watch the manoeuvring.

The trouble is that while these dimwits rattle their sabres in Whitehall or in retirement, it's real soldiers who will be sent out to fight the wars.

Just been reading George Orwell's "The Lion and the Unicorn", which was written in 1940.

The first line is "As I write,highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me".

I'm amazed how relevant his writing is today and how little some attitudes have not changed. I feel the current government would feel comfortable amongst Blimps.

Never mind. I looked it up.

I don't care what colour passports are but I am in an invidious position. My passport has expired. A passport is my only form of photo ID as I don't drive and I am legally supposed to carry a form of photo ID all the time. I don't actually cart my passport around with me but do need it for various official purposes, such as changes to my bank accounts.

I don't know what British passports cost these days but I doubt if the price has been reduced in the last ten years. Presumably, if I order a new one, it will be an EU passport because the UK is still part of the EU until withdrawal negotiations are completed in the next two years. Would an EU passport continue to be valid after that time or would I have to buy yet another new [British] one?

Next year, I can apply for New Zealand citizenship, assuming I can afford to, so that would solve the problem. In the interim…

Pity they didn't listen last year isn't it. A lot of egos were at stake, and look at the disastrous result.

Let's hope therefore that they ensure that they can do everything possible to mitigate the potential disaster.

Nobody, except the Brits, makes a decision about a constitutional decision that, of course, affects future generations, on the basis of a one-off plebiscite. It's not the same as voting in one party or another for four years; it goes to the heart of the way the country works – now and in the future. That referendum was probably one of the stupidest and most damaging things any Brit politician has ever done. Congratulations Mr Cameron!

Btw, roses and others, when you see a new thread title and you think " How boring", the polite thing to do is ignore it.

I think that most Civil Servants (i.e givernment officials) and most MPs (as evidenced by the A50 debate) knew it was a mistake. In an odd way I quite admire their determination to do their professional duty to give the public what it appears to want.

What they should be doing is telling the great British public the consequences now that they are coming to understand what will happen.
