Trump scrapes the bottom of the barrel

I am astounded that no-one has commented on Trump’s crass and cynical photoshoot standing outside the church in Washington and brandishing a bible, having deployed guards using teargas to clear his way there. Not to mention dragging Melania along to the shrine of John Paul II for more photos when neither of them set foot in church from one month to the next. Surely any Christian should be outraged at his manipulation of their religion? Though apparently evangelical Christians think he’s doing a good job.(??????!!!!!)

Your OP sounds like a rebuke, tidyskatemum. I'm sure we're all shocked to the core about Trump's behaviour and worried about the continuing violence.

You have started this thread so no doubt others will comment.

just when we thought he couldn't get any worse he shocks us.He's turning the clock back 50 years and more.Surely he cant win the election?

CanadianGran Tue 02-Jun-20 22:15:52

It seems to me that we are so used to him acting a fool/tyrant/pervert that we have become habituated to it. Not much he does can suprise us any more.

The vicar Of the church wasn’t too pleased either

I'm no political expert but I still find it surreal that such a man can be president of one of the most powerful nations in the world. His insensitive, bullish reaction and the aggressive and inflammatory language used by him in response to this latest manifestation of deep seated and established racism in 'his' nation highlight his total lack of empathy and compassion towards the anger, pain and anguish of all those in America and across the world who have seen that horrifying video clip and been shocked and repelled by it.

Callistemon Tue 02-Jun-20 23:22:47

I just thought it was further proof that he has completely lost the plot.

SueDonim Tue 02-Jun-20 23:29:08

There’s a thread here with comments on this topic.

Never thought that Trump would start a war with his own people. Can't believe that Republicans are not standing up and being counted.

Callistemon Tue 02-Jun-20 23:43:16

I think this is a thread specifically about Trump's reaction to the events, though.
Standing outside a church holding up a bible with that strange expression on his face whilst his country riots.
It is not within the realms of normal behaviour.

tidyskatemum Trumps disgusting photo shoot has been under discussion on another thread.

Starblaze Wed 03-Jun-20 00:08:44

He's SuperCallousFragileEgoSexistRacistPOTUS

Here are the views of religious leaders on his appalling behaviour outside the church www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/world-us-canada-52890650

ladymuck Wed 03-Jun-20 06:56:02

Surely we are no longer shocked at the things this man does?

Nortsat Wed 03-Jun-20 07:06:58

Good one Starblaze, I agree wholeheartedly...

Furret Wed 03-Jun-20 07:29:25

There’s a new photo out today from yesterday with him and Melanie standing in front of the St John Paul 2 shrine in Washington. Pass the bucket.

tidyskatemum Wed 03-Jun-20 07:32:13

I couldn’t find another thread about Trump and his church outings. I was a bit shocked to think that nobody was talking about it!

pollyperkins Wed 03-Jun-20 07:42:58

I looked too and didn't see one. I’m appalled at the way he is fanning the flames of aggression instead of trying to damp things down. I read an article by Obama on the subject- what a comtrast! Literate, sensitive and with good suggestions about reconciliation and Listening to the demonstrators’ concerns.

Furret Wed 03-Jun-20 07:55:13

Yet there are so many Americans who think like he does.

Furret Wed 03-Jun-20 08:00:57

He’s tweeted this trying to spin it. Idiots will think he’s managed the situation well - note the self congratulations ?

"D.C. had no problems last night. Many arrests. Great job done by all. Overwhelming force. Domination. Likewise, Minneapolis was great (thank you President Trump!)."

Grannynannywanny Wed 03-Jun-20 08:01:19

He is seriously mentally unstable and a danger to humanity.

As for the posing with the bible, I think he orchestrated that with a view to his forthcoming election. He’s hoping to rally his deluded evangelical followers in the Bible Belt states of the U.S who can see no wrong in him.

The terrifying thing is there may be enough of them to vote him in again.

Lucca Wed 03-Jun-20 08:30:23

All being discussed on Phoenix’s thread “I can’t believe it”

sodapop Wed 03-Jun-20 08:48:00

Trump is completely out of his depth now, as always he will not listen to advice. These bullying tactics are a sign of his lack of intelligence and power hunger.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 09:25:26

The focus of the two threads is slightly different so I think this one about Trump's reaction to events is perfectly valid in its own right.

marionk Wed 03-Jun-20 09:51:20

I don’t think he is scraping the bottom of the barrel - he IS the bottom of the barrel!
