Not expecting any support for thinking this is wrong. Just thought I'd mention it.

Of course it’s wrong - she’s not even earning her crust is she? I wonder if the teacher bashers have anything to say about her staying at home with just the occasional bit of online engagement. In fact none of them have done their job during this crisis - all ran away to country estates/palaces - and you know what, we managed perfectly well without them. They are all parasites and very much surplus to requirements.

Hard to swallow for all those losing their jobs and relying on food banks to feed their children.

LullyDully Fri 03-Jul-20 16:48:23

That is a big pay rise no doubt. However I believe she has a right and a duty to isolate due to her great age.

annep1 Fri 03-Jul-20 17:11:09

I think all older folk should isolate actually but I agree with everything else Suziewoozie said. And food banks was the first thing I thought of. So many suffering so much hardship.
Apparently some people are more entitled. ...

Hetty58 Fri 03-Jul-20 17:13:24

Some are 'more equal than others' - disgraceful!

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jul-20 17:30:17

I know of several people that have received pay rises and bonuses during this crisis.

I am a royalist and no way would I like to see them replaced by a Presidential style Head of State.

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 17:31:54

I agree she had no choice but to isolate but we shouldn’t have such an old head of state - she’s past her sell by and should have abdicated years ago. She put herself in the position where can’t do her very very well paid job. It’s a disgrace. C and C and K and W should have stayed in a London.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jul-20 17:35:49

Sorry suziewoozie but calling a 94 year old women who has served her country for nearly all her life past her sell by date is extremely rude.

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 17:41:01

It’s accurate - it’s now that matters not her apparently wonderful past.

I don't think they "ran away" any more than we did. We were told what to do and did it. So did they.

There is absolutely no point in discussing the money - which brings in much larger amounts in tourism, etc. as you appear to have already decided the good and the bad of it.

MaizieD Fri 03-Jul-20 18:02:06

I think that if people realised just how many other extremely rich people have inherited large amounts of money and do nothing at all to 'earn' their incomes they'd either get crosser about the appalling inequality that exists in the UK or get the RF's income a little more into proportion.

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 18:02:56

It’s a myth about the tourism - given the historical and cultural richness of London, tourists would come anyway, just as they do to Paris and other European capitals and cities. If C and C and K and W had wanted to stay in London, they would have. It suited them fine to run away - and no most of us didn’t, we stayed at home.

MaizieD Fri 03-Jul-20 18:06:59

What is so weird about all this angst is that the poor woman is famously extremely frugal in her private life.

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 18:08:12

I do realise Maizie all to well. What sticks in my craw is the simpering, obsequious, adoration, can’t do anything wrong, worshipping of the RF. The Duke of Westminster tax affairs are a national disgrace for example but I’m not expected to hero worship him am I ? Having a RF is the rotten core of inequality as it confers status, privilege, power and wealth based solely on birth.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jul-20 18:08:17

Kate & Williams main family home is in Norfolk in the grounds of Sandringham.

Charles & Camila have several to pick from.

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 18:09:00

Oh for heavens sake Maizie that is SO not the point.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-Jul-20 18:12:37

simpering obsequious adoration suziewoozie ? I see respect for our core Royal Family.

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 18:12:37

It’s not their main family home - they are based in London where the children go to school. It’s their country estate which was renovated at huge cost and G started school there and then they decamped to London. They are senior royals the 4 of them and should have stayed in the thick of it. Wasn’t the QM famous for doing that during the war and was much praised for it?

suziewoozie Fri 03-Jul-20 18:13:26

I have too much respect for myself than to respect someone who’s position is based on birth.

MaizieD Fri 03-Jul-20 18:18:06

Well, I don't hero worship the RF, suziewoozie. They're just a fact of life as far as I'm concerned, and, with the example of the USA, and what 'could' have happened here in the UK if we had a president, I think I'm perfectly content with Her Maj. Sorry.

Anyway, if we didn't have a RF to talk about whatever would some Gnetters do? They'd get terrible H & M withdrawal symptoms...

annep1 Fri 03-Jul-20 18:25:08

The end doesn't justify the means.

Frugal I wouldn't call shopping in Fortnum and Mason frugal.

It's impossible to justify this in any way. Even if you support a monarchy. From £30m o £80m in 7 years. And a pay rise in the middle of this crisis.
Oh well.....I've said my piece.

I totally agree with your entire post......... there’s a first time for everything ?

Nortsat Fri 03-Jul-20 18:37:36

Well maybe she should decline the pay rise this year and donate the money to charities supporting people in need.

paddyanne Fri 03-Jul-20 18:50:55

Monarchy should end when Lizzie dies. Its a mediaeval concept in a modern world.People have a whole different set of standards now and bowing and scraping to folk just because of who their mother or granny is is not on the list of anyone I know .Any kind of equality can never exist while these parasitical hypocrites lord over us .
There are and have been may many presidents all across the world who have done great jobs and gained huge respect at a fraction of the cost of the whatever their real name is that call themselves the House of Windsor ,sounds like an outlet village ....lol
