Please research this further. While the most egregious "Karen's" do seem to target people of color, they have also been shown spreading their viciousness elsewhere. An example was a "Karen" that coughed several times on a 2 year old in a stroller because the child's mother said the Karen didn't have a mask on. The mother's conversation was with a friend. Upon investigation, the cougher was a local special education teacher. She was fired for endangering a child.

So much ignorance .. It's incredibly sad- They can tote a gun and assault people physically but can't handle wearing a mask that weighs next to nothing- They will wear them for hunting, riding motorcycles and work-

They are not known locally as Karen's, Karen has become a term used world wide, its unpleasant misogyny.

Hadley Freeman wrote an interesting piece in The Guardian in April. I agree with her that this silly 'Karen' meme, particularly when applied in the UK, is sexist and classist.

It's come to mean any woman, particularly older, and originates, according to Freeman, from a US comedian in 2005 joking

“Every [friendship] group has a Karen, and she’s always a bag of douche.”

Why this obsession with America? We can't do anything here. We have enough to worry about. I have never heard the term Karen, except for a good friend who lives in US. This is why I don't read the Guardian. When I do look at an article quoted it is always from that newspaper and the request for donations. I find it very depressing, we are coping with this Pandemic and certainly not interested in these random stories.

In the UK these pejorative connotations with names and 'witty' alliterations are coined and perpetuated by middle class comedians/journalists, e.g. Essex girls, Croydon facelift, Scousebrow, pram face, etc., and are directly aimed at working class women.
