Barack Obama

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought to the end, through her cancer, with unwavering faith in our democracy and its ideals. That’s how we remember her. But she also left instructions for how she wanted her legacy to be honored. My statement:

Interesting piece from the statement and one important to us now.

“ A basic principle of the law — and of everyday fairness — is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what’s convenient or advantageous in the moment. The rule of law, the legitimacy of our courts, the fundamental workings of our democracy all depend on that basic principle.”

RIP a fine fine woman. I’ll say no more at the moment as she deserves a brief period of respectful silence and thought

My heart broke when I learned she died- And then I cried- She fought to the last-

Dying on Rosh Hashanah is so fitting.

Yes, it’s a tragedy. What a loss. RIP.
The balance of the US Supreme Court is now leaning decidedly to the right.
Let’s hope the new appointee to the court, is indeed in the purview of a new President after November.

There’s a great film on Amazon Prime about Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s struggle and her successes, called ‘On the Basis of Sex’. It’s well worth watching.

I was so upset when I saw this news. Sometimes you just think someone will live forever, despite age and infirmity. #Notorious RBG.

I’m going to start a new thread on the US Supreme Court as I want to leave this thread to be in her honour and memory

Many would have retired on health grounds but she carried on fighting for rights and justice.

RIP Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Apologies for the autocorrect.

A very decent person. We should all aspire, and vote, to have people in roles of public office who espouse her values.
RIP Ruth Ginsburg

Is there any way that Trump can be prevented from appointing another ultra right-wing Justice to the Supreme Court before the Presidential election?

rosecarmel Sat 26-Sep-20 18:47:02

He/they have until the inaugurations in January to appoint-

varian Sat 26-Sep-20 18:52:10

But can the Republican majority in the Senate not appoint Trump's "pick"? or do you think that there might be enough of them with a conscience to block it?

rosecarmel Sat 26-Sep-20 18:59:27

Yes- They've the ability to not approve his choice- I doubt they will block his pick- But it's possible-

varian Sat 26-Sep-20 19:10:28

Let us just hope that there are enough of them with a conscience

“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.” RBG to her grand daughter Clara Spera

suziewoozie Sun 27-Sep-20 08:07:44

It’s not going to happen is it rose she’ll be confirmed.

rosecarmel Sun 27-Sep-20 12:19:35

Maybe right now if there are any hold outs they are being quiet about it, aside from the two female Senators that spoke out-

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Sep-20 12:31:48

I read earlier that the new appointee has got where she is today due to the doors opened for her by the likes of Ruth Ginsberg.

Once appointed it is speculated that she will endeavour to close those doors to other young women in USA, she is anti-abortion and apparently LBGQT rights are not high on her agenda.

suziewoozie Sun 27-Sep-20 13:18:38

GG yes I read that re the doors - it’s so true. She’s so pro gun she once voted in favour of allowing convicted violent felons to be allowed gun permits.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 27-Sep-20 13:22:26

How does Christianity reconcile with her beliefs?

suziewoozie Sun 27-Sep-20 13:44:06

Being a Christian is no barrier to wanting to control women’s bodies and give people the right to shoot each other.
