about time, thanks. Keep it up. If Johnson or colleagues just deliberately rant on to waste time- just cut them off. Bravo.

I missed this!

Luckygirl Sun 22-Nov-20 22:17:54

What did he do??!!

NotSpaghetti Sun 22-Nov-20 22:29:07

He simply cut Boris Johnson off as he was basically just taking up time in a bumbling way.

Wish you could switch a number of them off!

Luckygirl Sun 22-Nov-20 22:34:17

All power to his elbow!

He did well again today. Boris tried to avoid answering a questions at PMQs and asked Starmer one instead of answering.

The Speaker intervened and reminded the so-called Prime Minister - and not for the first time - that this was Prime Minister's Questions, not Leader of the Oppositions questions.

Boris hardly ever answers any questions. He just says he's proud of his Government for doing whatever he can think up at the time or what a great job his Government have done during an emergency.

But at least we might get better communications now that Dom has gone. Boris wanted to appoint Allegra Stratton (AS) who had been working for Rishi Sunak as he had noticed she was making Rishi more popular than him. AS didn't want to work with or for Lee Cain so the upshot was that Cain and Unabel (aka Dom) had to go.

I applaud you all for understanding what the Speaker says, we can barely make out things he says, his accent is so strong and his manner of speaking a bit muffled.
He’s from Lancashire.....I’m from Yorkshire so you would think I could make out all his words, but as it is, if I can make out 50% am doing well.
I didn’t like the smarmy Bercow, but always understood what he was saying.

MaizieD Wed 25-Nov-20 14:21:16

Sounds a bit like red rose v white rose aggro to me grin

I'm from Essex, have lived in Yorkshire and now Co. Durham, and, have a broad Scots speaking nephew. I don't have any difficulty in making out what the Speaker says.

I did half expect him to mute Johnson when he started arguing...

One day the Speaker might insist that he actually answers the question. (Oh for a flying pig emoji..)

Nortsat Wed 25-Nov-20 14:56:08

I agree Rose22 it was refreshing to see the Speaker put Johnson in his place at PMQs today. Then when Johnson protested that his question to Kier Starmer was legitimate, the speaker put him in his place again by declaring ‘I’ll be the judge of that Prime Minister’.

Sarnia Wed 25-Nov-20 14:58:57

Sorry I missed that! Maybe the Speaker has been taking tips from the US media who have been cutting Trump off mid rant.

NotSpaghetti Wed 25-Nov-20 16:53:09

Sarnia ??

Ramblingrose22 Wed 25-Nov-20 17:14:06

Yes, Nortsat, our illustrious (in his own eyes) PM has never really understood what the job is about or what the Speaker's job is either!

I can't bear to listen to Boris for too long. Must be those clipped Etonian vowels and superior attitude. His attempt at answering one question by accusing the Labour Party of being against the private sector was pathetic and no defence for all the billions of taxpayers' money wasted on useless PPE.

lemongrove Wed 25-Nov-20 17:59:10

Haha MaizieD.....nope, no aggro at all, I haven’t lived in Yorkshire for fifty years.I just have difficulty making out what he says.

Iam64 Wed 25-Nov-20 18:08:20

lemongrove- maybe you're too far away from t'north to follow the speaker. I'm too far away from Eton to follow the PM grin

lemongrove Wed 25-Nov-20 18:27:10

No, not that either Iam he has a very strong Lancashire accent and an unclear delivery, Johnson also has an unclear delivery of voice at times, especially when he speaks rapidly.
I can hear every word uttered by Sunak and Starmer.

biba70 Wed 25-Nov-20 18:30:26

Ramblingrose- this is a very deliberate strategy, to waffle on and waste time, or go on the attack or ask questions back instead of answering. English is not my MT, and both Yorkshire and Lancashire can be hard to 'get' (and so many more, Scouse, Geordie, Glaswegian, and more) - but I for one thank the Speaker for holding the PM to account- cut him off if he deliberately waffles, or any of the above 'strategies'- questions or attacks. I hope he does it everytime now, and does request that the PM actually answers the question.

Iam64 Wed 25-Nov-20 19:00:44

Yes, so can Iemon, Sunak and Starmer speak clearly. I did wonder today whether Mr J has been coached by his new spad, his speech was calmer, slower and clearer (till he got p*****d off)

MaizieD Wed 25-Nov-20 20:27:08

He still didn't answer the questions, though.

biba70 Wed 25-Nov-20 20:36:09

indeed- and that is the next step for The Speaker- insist he answers the ** question!

Ramblingrose22 Wed 25-Nov-20 21:07:06

Agreed - if it's Prime Minister's Questions then he should have to answer the questions asked.

But as we all know, he can't do detail, he can't master a brief, he cannot give satisfactory answers where there are none, and as he's spent most of his life blustering and winging it he expects to be able to carry on despite being the PM and at PMQs. Pitiful!

Oldbat1 Wed 25-Nov-20 21:18:03

I was pleased the speaker intervened again today - the arrogance of Johnson to think he doesn’t have to answer questions at PMQs? I would have loved to see John Bercow handle the PM - it is a shame that didn’t happen.

Dinahmo Wed 25-Nov-20 21:37:51

I'd love to know if Johnson reads these comments and finds out what people really think of him.

biba70 Thu 26-Nov-20 13:32:06

Shocking behaviour again by this Governement, leaking info on tiers to Press before the House. A mockery and total disrespect for out Parliamentary so called Democracy.

Lindsay Hoyle should have insisted for a response from Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Dinahmo Thu 26-Nov-20 14:40:34

Lindsay Hoyle is better than I expected but I wish Bercow was still Speaker.
