I dont usually join in the politics on here but I was just wondering over breakfast with DH today did DT do any good during his term of office- anything at all??

DiscoDancer1975 Thu 14-Jan-21 12:47:07

Because of his appalling behaviour ,and for just being him, hopefully none of us will ever have to see or hear about him ever again. That’s good isn’t it??

GagaJo Thu 14-Jan-21 14:04:37

Good point BB. I can see tumbleweed passing waiting for an answer, mind!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 14-Jan-21 14:06:48

I think the extremely wealthy will find much that Trump did for them.

Norah Thu 14-Jan-21 14:08:11

Reducing the number of forces in war zones?

Namsnanny Thu 14-Jan-21 14:12:23

Is this a 'how many times do I beat my wife question?'

M0nica Thu 14-Jan-21 14:19:02

No.

He promised to tackle certain issues in his manifesto. He delivered on quite a few, amazingly. I think that’s why 47% of Americans voted for him again. 10 million more people that last time! It just wasn’t enough for them to win.

He brought troops home as promised. He then
Soz gotta go & answer the intercom

Alegrias1 Thu 14-Jan-21 14:34:47

Some other stats to counter the assertion that 47% of Americans voted for him....

47% of the turnout voted for him
32% of eligible voters voted for him
23% of Americans voted for him

66 million people voted for Hillary in 2016, 81 million for Biden, so 15 million more voted Democrat than last time. Big swing to the Democrats.

Trump also has the "honour" of coming second in the popular vote on both occasions he has stood.

Answers on a postage stamp?

BigBertha1 Thu 14-Jan-21 14:42:23

Just wondered - is he all bad then? Actually evil?

Namsnanny Thu 14-Jan-21 14:48:31

M0nica

No.

Really M0nica?
Who is going to brave the retribution to answer?

Not that I can anyway, I loath what the man stands for, and dont read much (so dont know much) about him by way of a personal protest.
Just pointing out it sounds like a loaded question.

NOT that I'm insinuating Bigbertha1 started it with that in mind.

Back again ...

U.S. coal consumption declined in every year of his presidency. In 2019, the U.S. burned 586 million tons of coal—a reduction of almost 50 percent from the 2007 peak, and a drop of almost 15 percent over 2018.

Also he moved the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and proposed a peace plan that substituted economic development for immediate Palestinian statehood.

Traditional experts feared that his policies would ignite regional conflict. Instead, if anything, the region has calmed.
First the United Arab Emirates, then Bahrain and Sudan, and most recently Morocco have opened diplomatic relations with Israel. It’s now possible to fly direct from Tel Aviv to Dubai, overflying Saudi Arabia!

... fools jump in where angels fear to tread.
?
I never learn do I?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 14-Jan-21 14:51:41

Isn’t he only the 2nd American President not to have been involved in a war somewhere in the world?

Namsnanny Thu 14-Jan-21 14:53:53

Your a credit to your choices.
I always find you engaging.
Keep it up Urmstonegran grin

Namsnanny Thu 14-Jan-21 14:54:34

your = you are

And let’s remember Chinah. No, not the virus although why the WHO can’t access those laboratories is a big concern, isn’t it? Why go to the wet markets when they opened again in Wuhan so soon after anyway?

No, 5G. Huwaiwe (? sp). 5G is a rare case in which Trump’s abrasive methods yielded results that might not have been achieved by a more emollient administration. Score one for him, and it’s an important one.

CSizzle Thu 14-Jan-21 14:56:53

Just to lower the tone; I wonder if he knows that in England trump means fart.

Urmstongran Thu 14-Jan-21 14:57:03

Aw shucks Namsnanny you sure got me blushing right there.

The demography of Republican supporter is shrinking rapidly.

That is one of the issues with the white supremacists the BAME population will soon no longer be a minority and it exercises the Republicans a great deal.

BlueBelle Thu 14-Jan-21 14:57:58

The man is delusional, narcissistic and probably mentally ill The question always is does mental illness excuse the person or make them a criminal
I think he’s a criminal in many different ways, he is a liar, cheat has attributed to murder and he has not only harmed America but has destabilised the world
No he did nothing good unless it benefitted himself his family or his cronies
Strange question bigbertha what do you think ?

Urmstongran Thu 14-Jan-21 15:06:42

And drugs. Not the illegal stuff. The good ones. For the American people. He kept telling them that Big Pharma was ripping them off. He had a fight there on his hands ...

In 2016, the Food and Drug Administration approved 73 new generic medications. That figure rose year by year through the Trump administration, reaching 107 in 2019.

That same year, Congress passed new legislation that will bring more generics to market even faster in the future. The Creates Act will allow generic drug makers to sue drug developers that withhold information needed to manufacture generics in a timely way once patent protection expires.

Generics = less expensive to buy.
Like buying ibuprofen instead of Neurofen.

So, in my opinion, nope. He wasn’t evil. Or bad.
Stupid yes. He made some bigly mistakes. But he did do some good things.

A Marmite character indeed.

Anyway, the world has turned.
He’s out.
Biden’s in.

Credit where credit due.

We're all to keen to sacrifice our patience on the alter of principle.
Its nice to see both operating together.

BlueBelle Thu 14-Jan-21 15:12:11

Well he may be out but unfortunately I don’t think it will be a smooth takeover I pray there is no more blood spilt
If he’s not mad I m not sure how you can possibly explain his behaviour, which is even more worrying if you consider him sane
