Sturgeon -v- Salmond. This is going to be very interesting. Is the SNP finished? And what impact on the Scots regarding Indy2? ?

It’s a very public spat.

The amount of illegal obstruction Salmond faced and still faces in getting documents is prima facie evidence of a huge cover up.

Salmond is about to check mate Nicola, but its a strange game of chess where the King takes the Queen.

Will the truth come out

Aveline Tue 23-Feb-21 11:54:25

Its all very unpleasant and quite worrying really.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Feb-21 11:55:42

What worries you about it Aveline?

Aveline Tue 23-Feb-21 12:20:40

Who can you believe? The politicians, civil servants, the Crown Office even the Police seem to be embroiled in it all.

paddyanne Tue 23-Feb-21 13:06:58

It wont be the end of either the SNP or Indy ref 2.The Independence movement is much bigger than two personalities .The truth is as was said by many that teh "crown Office" went after AS ,Lesley Evans an employee of WM in Scotland went looking for "complaints" about AS ,I believe she asked 400+ women of their experiences of working with him over the years .
As we know and as I said at the time it was a setup.Alex was found not guilty .Now the target is the FM .If she hadn't gone down the court route and agreed to an internal inquiry she would have been slated and so we have the nit picking nonsense thats happening now .
We've more sense than to let this derail Independence.MSM are of course having a field day but then the BAD SNP reports are the norm for us .

Casdon Tue 23-Feb-21 13:08:58

It’s not going to be pretty whatever comes out of it, at least if the BBC news has reported accurately so far. I feel sorry for the Scottish electorate, as the elections are so close this can’t help.

Aveline Tue 23-Feb-21 13:11:52

But why all the obfuscation? All the obstacles put in the way of just publishing evidence? It's all very suspicious and certainly makes you wonder about the heart of it all. So much money involved. So much money to pay to coach the civil servants in how to present their evidence among other things. It's just too easy to dismiss it all and blame the media. We need to have faith in the central 'establishment' and currently, that's being shaken.

Sorry Casdon, what? I think we'll cope.

No idea if the allegations Salmond has made are true or not. I guess we'll find out. As for the SNP and Indy2, I'm with paddyanne.

Casdon Tue 23-Feb-21 13:40:10

I do feel sorry for the electorate Alegrias1, as I’m sure there are many who are not as clear in their choices as you are. I don’t think it’s ever helpful for there to be situations like this so close to elections. It will make people unsettled, in any election there are lots who are ‘undecided’, which means that whatever the outcome of the election it will be different to what it would have been otherwise.

Alegrias1 Tue 23-Feb-21 13:44:00

I guess it was just a strange turn of phrase Casdon, to be sorry for us. Maybe to say that you could see how this would present a dilemma about who to vote for. Anyway, its not for me to tell you how too express yourself, sorry flowers Just being a touchy Scot smile

Urmstongran Tue 23-Feb-21 13:48:09

With only ten weeks to go until the elections the SNP could do without this brouhaha. Mud sticks.

Alegrias1 Tue 23-Feb-21 13:52:06

Strangely UG, I agree with you!

Urmstongran Tue 23-Feb-21 13:58:22

This was posted yesterday, very revealing!

Aveline Tue 23-Feb-21 14:12:28

It's a horrible feeling somehow. Just don't know who to believe. Why can't they just let Salmond's evidence be produced. Why can't all sides just say what's going on on and stop all this blocking. It does make me very suspicious. I'm no fan of Salmond but just let him say his piece. What has Scottish Government got to hide?

Urmstongran Tue 23-Feb-21 14:23:41

Why is this story so low profile in the MSM?

... Some may say the simple answer is that the MSM loves anybody who hates the Tories. They don't want rid of Nicola...well, not yet a while, anyway.

Aveline Tue 23-Feb-21 14:30:34

It's now on BBC and Sky news.

Urmstongran Tue 23-Feb-21 14:56:10

NS is not showing herself in a very good light to her beloved EU. Looks like her Independence boat has sailed too, in my opinion. Yes, I know what the polls were saying a few weeks ago but now. ... ?

GillT57 Tue 23-Feb-21 15:17:09

what is WM? I am having a bit of bother working out all the abbreviations.

Alegrias1 Tue 23-Feb-21 15:19:17

WM is Westminster Gill57

Funnily enough, I find the opposite! The MSM, especially the BBC is very poor when it comes to reporting anything against the Tories, the court judgement against Hancock is just one example. However, this is a nasty business in Scotland, and as an exiled Scot, with many family living there, I can assure you that Ms Sturgeon is not universally popular, far from it! What a dreadful choice facing them at the ballot box; the buffoon Johnson or the machiavellian Sturgeon with her one policy party. Stands back for backlash ................

GillT57 Tue 23-Feb-21 15:22:24

Thank you Alegrias. !

Aveline Tue 23-Feb-21 15:22:58

Her insisting that the EU flag be flown over all govt buildings necessitating £500,000 spent on these flags and only allowing the Union Jack to be flown on Remembrance Sunday may possibly endear her with EU but has upset a lot of the Scottish electorate.

Alegrias1 Tue 23-Feb-21 15:31:30

Well I can't do the backlash after you've thanked me, can I GillT57 ? grin

But I'll have a go....

The choice at the ballot box for us in May will be between several different political parties and Johnson isn't standing, although wee Dougie Ross is going to have a go. To be fair, at least Ross does seem to have a bit of a backbone when it comes to standing up to Johnson. No House of Lords seat for him in the future, I guess.

Anyway, I'm off. Before the anti-Nicola chorus becomes as loud as the anti-Meghan chorus on another thread. There's a parallel, actually. People believe what they see in the papers about Meghan, and they believe what they see in the papers about Sturgeon. Hmmmm....

Smileless2012 Tue 23-Feb-21 15:32:51

£500,000 spent on EU flagsshockare you sure Aveline? How many did they buy for goodness sake?

I agree with you "What does the Scottish Government have to hide?" and it there's nothing to hide, why do they seem hell bent on making it look as if there is?
