David Amess, Southend West MP, wrote to a supporter to encourage him/her to support local Tory candidate in upcoming election because it would ensure preferential government funding for the council.

I understood that was part of an election leaflet.

A threat to voters. Vote tory or else....

At least somebody's being honest.

Over the last 10 years, it's been blatantly obvious to anybody who has looked at the figures that local government funding has favoured Tory constituencies.

Reducing funding to Labour councils has been a clever move by the Conservative central government because the councils have been blamed for cuts to local services.

Well there's a surprise ...not.

Same seems to happen in Scotland with the SNP. Those who don’t vote for SNP councils seem to be at the bottom of the list for funding. hmm

quite. It has been obvious, completely obvious!

It doesn't seem to make any difference who you vote for where I live as nothing gets done anyway.

Where there's poverty there's a Labour council. It's never been any different.

Frank Field fought for years in his constituency at Birkenhead, in fact a lifetime but nothing changed. There was/is still abject poverty, unemployment and a rise in crime-
Liverpool's the same.

Not true EllanVannin. I was amazed at the improvements to New Brighton last time I visited. The Conservatives would have left Merseyside (including east Wirral) to rot.

You can thank Thatcher for that!

EllanVannin Tue 04-May-21 22:34:19

Growstuff, New Brighton's improvements are thanks to Peel Holdings, not the council.

EllanVannin Tue 04-May-21 22:36:10

What's Thatcher got to do with anything growstuff ? She's dead anyway.

If it had been up to the council we'd have had nobody visiting the resort as they wanted to charge for parking on the prom !!
