Purpose of the G7 Summit 2021

…..the environment, future pandemic responses, vaccines and cryptocurrencies.

That’s what I thought it was supposed to be about, and I assume these will be discussed. However I still think the meeting should not have been held given the world wide pandemic.

Jill Biden and the Duchess of Cambridge have just held a press conference about educating women in the developing world.

Bit awkward as the U.K. is the only country cutting aid towards this project.

Maybe not so much. We probably already pay more towards it than other countries. The Duchess of Cambridge obviously didn’t find it embarrassing.

They seemed to be comfortable with each other this morning on a visit to a school in Hayle.

Spoilt only by the stupid jet at the end, though I guess it was part of the message. Sometimes less is more, no need to overdo it.

It seems to be going well. However there is nothing special about our relationship with the USA and I wish we would stop deluding ourselves that there is one.

We are a friend and ally in the same way many other countries are and we are not even at the forefront of that group.

A free holiday in our beautiful country.

Sorry Alegrias back to the serious stuff. I’m not sure that these G7 summits do any good really. A nice bit of upmarket networking. The UK has already had to splash out more than £7mil to extend the runway at Newquay airport to facilitate Air Force One for Biden. Will it ever be used again or has this just been a colossal waste of money?

These nations pin their green credentials to their lapels. They all talk the talk. But does promising stuff actually deliver, down the line? I’m not sure whether they have to sign up to anything and how binding it actually is.

The Royal Family are out in force. HMTQ arrives tomorrow. I think that’s a first at these summits? Soft power.

It seems to be going well. However there is nothing special about our relationship with the USA and I wish we would stop deluding ourselves that there is one.

We are a friend and ally in the same way many other countries are and we are not even at the forefront of that group.

Appearances don't tell the whole story. However elegant and confident the First USA couple looked- and all the smiles- the main story is that the US, via Biden, has issued a demarche to the UK, which is a serious diplomatic request or warning, not to jeopardise the Belfast Agreement by continuing to break the NI protocol.

The UK press don’t seem to be reporting this at the moment (for some strange reason ;) ).

France has vetoed any re-opening of the deal Johnson signed up to.

The EU countries are considering trade sanctions if we keep breaking our agreement.

People are not going to put up with Johnson messing around any more, this is now crystal clear.

I don’t know Alegrias1 sausages could be on the agenda with von der Leyden there ?

Ah, Macron Kali .....he can always be relied on to try and rubbish anything about the UK.?
He’s not having a good time in France lately so a bit of indignation and finger pointing may distract the public there from wanting to slap him.

We are hosting the G7 so have to shell out money on doing so,
As do any other country when it’s their turn.

Someone tried to slap Macron yesterday didn’t they? I doubt anyone will get near enough to slap him at the G7.

Actually he irritates me intensely but I’d draw the line at slapping him, I’m not the violent kind

There are many people so much more slappable than him, for sure.

But truly, I ao agre maddyone- this is just not the way to do it (although perhaps... if I could fish slap Farage, I'd be very tempted- in my dreams).

I was looking at a photo of leaders and doing a count - there are more than 7. So upon investigation I see there are representatives from the EU, both the European Commission President and European Council President.

I have some learning to do on EU roles. If France, Germany and Italy are part of the G7, are they also represented by EU? I'm so confused....

The G7 is an informal club, not a formal arrangement with legal contracts, treaties and a constitution, etc.
