Running out of gas

The utilities crisis means that it is a possibility the UK could run out of gas this winter.

Yet another Brexit benefit. The government is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, standard wise.

IF this happens and god forbid it doesn't, industry would have to shut down

My supplier has just gone into liquidation.

Re support for heavy industry/ gas prices: ““I don't think anyone could accuse us of being dismissive of concern for business”, and said he completely rejecting the suggestion from UK Steel that there was a “hostile environment” for industrial investment and levelling up...

I asked if he would accept heavy industry going under because of gas spike

Sunak pointed to pandemic help, but “in general I believe in a market economy -has served us v well in this country, not Government's job to come in & start managing the price of every individual product”

So that could be a 'no' to support for industry, then?

I propose that tax exile and oil & gas magnate Ratcliffe on Peston may not be considered as an independent witness.
I'll be first to criticise the government but continual dire warnings about everything and anything, eventually all merge into one.

If the government bails out industry it’s we, the taxpayers, who foot the bill whilst the head honchos and shareholders continue to do very nicely.

When I’m told that we have run out of gas then I’ll think about what I’m going to do. While it’s a possibility it doesn’t concern me.

It looks like a lot of countries are going back to coal power as there is not enough energy from renewable sources. All these promises about zero carbon emission could be just that because our renewables can’t cope.

This is a global problem, with greater ramifications to this country then worrying about just Brexit.
By all means use it to vent personal anger at the situation.

But a full discussion should include why the USA is better prepared, what part Russia and China have played, and what decisions this and past governments have made to bring this situation about.

I don't see any anger here, Namsnanny. Just information about what might be about to happen.

(And alegrias refusing to panic... grin )

Smileless2012 Thu 14-Oct-21 13:32:02

I agree Alegrias it's one doom ridden forecast after another at the moment.

Yes your right MaizeD I should have used a different word or phrase.

Alegrias1 Thu 14-Oct-21 14:46:19

My panic glands are just overworked... grin

But I do still get just a bit agitated by the approach that we're running out of gas so renewables are to blame. hmm

Here's some positive stuff...
