No 10 was breaking Christmas Lockdown rules last year.

While most of the UK was observing the Lockdown rules last Christmas staff at No. 10 were having a great time...

When asked three times at PMQs yesterday to deny the story Johnson refused to do so. Because, it seems, even he couldn't take his habitual lying that far.

All that an official Downing Street spokesman could come up with was that 'covid rules were observed at all times... No denial. hmm

This is only the latest in the steady stream of high profile lockdown breaking stories we've heard over the past 18 months.

Some very sad stories on this thread from people who weren't able to see dying relatives because of the rules.

With the possibility that the spread of the Omicron variant may call for more stringent rules just before Christmas this year these revelations may well lead people not to observe them.

While I realise that we will never get rid of this virus how can we even begin to reduce its spread when those who are supposed to being giving a lead by showing a good example flout the rules?

I should add that I'm hmm as to why this story has only broken now.

This is hardly surprising is it. They are always breaking the rules they make.

GagaJo Thu 02-Dec-21 12:09:22

And as always, their rule breaking is used as an excuse for the idiot-on-the-street to do whatever the hell he likes. Hence NO staff and less than half the customers wearing masks in my local supermarket yesterday.

Word is that Kuenssberg attended.

If that is the case than she has failed in her first duty as a political journalist, by not reporting the fact that the Prime minister broke government rules whilst the country was in lockdown and unable to visit family and sick/dying relatives.

Quite frankly couldn't give a Scooby doo is it really that important

No surprise there then.

Well, Rosie' I'm sure that all those millions of people who cancelled their Christmas plans, who waved at Granny through care home windows on Christmas Day, who exchanged presents in the cold, with strict regard to social distancing, who couldn't say goodbye to the 2 - 3,000 per week loved ones who died of Covid (or other illnesses) over the Christmas period, who thought they were doing their bit to lessen the effects of the covid pandemic, will similarly shrug their shoulders and say they couldn't give a scoobys...

What amazes me, is how this has only just hit the Press?
So it seems Kuensberg was part of it all, so no wonder she kept quiet. But surely, others must have known.

Who has blown the whistle now?

rosie it is hugely important- because others made massive sacrifices- many people faced Christmas alone, as they could not get to their families. Some were depressed and truly felt abandonned and so alone. And because Johnson and co told others NOT to party and get together, and THEY thought it was OK to ignore their own rules for the rest of the population.

So yes, it is massively important, and 100% indicative of the contempt this Government has for 'the poeple' = us.

And also because as for many other things (masks, etc) it is setting a really bad example. Perfectly fair for many to say 'ignore the rule- Johnson and his Governement do, so why not'.

But I really think you know that!

Visgir1 Thu 02-Dec-21 13:21:10

Hands up all those in a work bubble that also did that?

MaizieD Thu 02-Dec-21 13:21:22

Not to mention those who were fined £1,000s for giving parties during lockdown.

Bexley & Sidcup bye-election today?

MissAdventure Thu 02-Dec-21 13:22:32

I effing well give a scooby doo! angry
Its blatant piss taking, by people who couldn't care less about anything other than carrying on their own self serving lifestyles.

I don't know anyone who did- not one. And yet, even if some did, it was not as bad, as they were not the very one making the rules for others. And THAT is why it is so inexcusable.

MissAdventure Fri 03-Dec-21 16:40:08

I must mix in the wrong company, because I don't know a single person who attended works parties or dos.
Even the most entitled person I know cancelled a big party at the last minute because their conscience got the better of them.

varian Fri 03-Dec-21 19:43:18

There seem to be a lot of people who just don't care.

Yes it is important. First we were told we had 5 days to see family and friends then, at the last minute, it was changed to one day, this meant we couldn't see DS and family on Boxing day, it was Easter before we saw them (long journey). I spent a fortune posting the presents to DGDs. In the meantime the lazy, lying, cheating clown running the Country was ignoring his own rules. He really does believe rules are just for the little people.

What's new!

Iam64 Sat 04-Dec-21 21:21:51

Yes it’s that important - my grandchildren saw both sets of grandparents in the garden - separately.
We were lucky to do thst. Many people cancelled plans at the last minute as government advice changed
None of our extended family saw each other. We all followed the guidance because keeping safe, not overwhelming the nhs or wasting public services is a shared responsibility
Unless you’re part of the 10 Downing Street lot

... it's the "nobody cares!" cynical put down - very prevalent on Facebook at the moment.

It's a way of minimising and invalidating your concern over an issue and trying to make you look petty.

Of course, some people really don't care, but rather arrogant to think they represent everyone else's opinion.

Biscuitmuncher Sat 04-Dec-21 22:58:02

It absolutely amazes me how people do what these clowns tell them to do!

Tulpia Sun 05-Dec-21 22:16:31

This was a staff party which Boris Johnson didn't attend so not sure what all the froth is about.

MissAdventure Sun 05-Dec-21 22:36:14

Perhaps because there wasn't supposed to be parties.

I'll repost this tweet from another thread:

To anyone scoffing that ‘nobody cares’ about govt having parties while the rest of us were in lockdown, unable to be together under threat of punishment…
The govt thanks you for smashing up your own moral compass and self-respect in order to help them hold us all in contempt.
