The screenwriter died yesterday.
Really sad to learn.
I loved her work.

(I’m suprised that there wasn’t already a thread)

Yes, I thought it must be on GN somewhere.

Watched ‘Band of Gold’ and ‘Fat Friends’ in her earlier times. James Corden was in it back then.

And her daughter was in Corrie back in the day.

She was only 71 frightening isn't it.

That's very sad. Great writer. RIP.

Very sad news yesterday. RIP Kay

Yes, no matter how seemingly unappealing the show, if Kay Mellor had a hand in it I was right there. I found her to be such a down to earth and practical person with a delightful sense of humour. I remember her telling of her difficult start into married life and parenthood. Such fortitude for a young couple. Wonderful success story and deservedly so. Talent will out. I'm truly saddened by her death. ?

Yes, I was shocked to see the news about Kate Mellor, 71! It said she died 'suddenly'. Everything she wrote was appealing to me, brilliant, so down to earth.

FannyCornforth Wed 18-May-22 07:41:08

Calendargirl yes, her daughter is the beautiful Gaynor Faye who was brilliant in Corrie.
She was also in many of Kay’s series.
I always thought that was sweet; if it was anyone else I probably would have thought it annoying

Lovely piece on Kay Mellor on BBC Breakfast just before 8am.

I was sorry to read about the death of Kay Mellor, 71 is no great age these days. An amazing woman by all accounts, she overcame a difficult start in life to become an accomplished playwright.

I read a little about her early life Terribull she really overcame the odds. I enjoyed most things she wrote, Gaynor Faye is so much like her mother .
RIP Kay Mellor.

Did anyone hear, Front Row on Radio 4 last night?
Sally Wainwright's was there being interviewed about her Friend and inspiration Kay Mellor, very touching the close of the interview Sally Wainwright was crying. I have never heard anyone cry on live Radio before.
Genuinely sad for all her family and friends as well as a great loss of Talent for everyone. RIP Kay

Shocked and saddened by this news. ?
Admired her greatly and always enjoyed her work.

Kate1949 Wed 18-May-22 09:42:42

Yes it was very sad apparently it was sudden. She wrote some great things. RIP Kay.
I was going to post about this yesterday but have posted first about other deaths and felt I was becoming the prophet of doom!

FannyCornforth Wed 18-May-22 09:46:15

Kate - I had exactly the same thought yesterday.
I thought that I’d wait for someone else to start the thread!

Visgirl yes, I did. I had to turn it off as it was so sad

BlueSky Wed 18-May-22 12:10:35

Sad yes, like all deaths, but shocking at 71? (My age). Tragically there are much younger people.
