How would you get MPs to focus on their jobs not sex?

Unfortunately, with the current crop of self-serving, #mefirst, politicians I don't think you can stop them. They're only out for themselves, not to serve. No better natures to appeal to.

Wish I knew! Wish I understood the attraction they seem to have for some women too, I mean David Mellor? John Major? Bill Clinton? Boris?
It must be the pheromones exuded by power or else their high levels of testosterone are part of what drives a politician. (But still Jihn Major? )

I can't imagine how gruesome it must be to share a bed with Boris Johnson...?

OakDryad Maybe they should include sex with each other as part of their duties. It would solve that problem and keep them all happy.

My first thought was castration but that seems a little harsh, so I’d go for banning alcohol from the premises and putting bromide in the tea/coffee.

I agree - but we are not talking affairs here or consensual sexual activity - we are talking sexual harassment and, in at least one instance, a rape accusation. I do mind if our elected representatives are engaging in this sort of behaviour.

Kandinsky it’s not the affairs per se. What they do in their own time and away from their offices is up to them, Snogging in the corridors of power and according their lovers preferential treatment is a different matter.

Do you really mean that Kandinsky? I think if people behave incontinently in their private lives it’s a certainty that they do in their public lives too.

The best heart surgeon in the world can be having an affair but he’s still a brilliant surgeon.
I have friends who are married to police officers - nearly all of them are having ( or have had ) affairs. Same as when I worked in banking/ offices.
It’s human nature. It doesn’t mean you’re bad at your job.

Teaching is also pretty bad for affairs ( again, from personal experience )

So basically - anywhere where you get lots of people working together.
It will never stop.

Agree, so many public servants are not squeeky clean... Are you including all the current Women MP's as well?

We're not, in general, talking about 'affairs' here, are we? Those are consensual.

We're talking about sexual harassment, rape, and, in the latest case, drugging people for non consensual sex. This is abuse of power and downright nastiness.

Jeremy Thorpe was having extra marital gay sex in less enlightened times. They booted him out purely for the embarrassment factor.

Jeremy Thorpe was booted out for plotting to have his 'lover' killed.

Profumo was sleeping with a girl who was also sleeping with with a Soviet attache, which could have posed a security risk.

You miss my point Kandinsky. Profumo's affair was a matter of national security because Keeler was also involved with Soviet Yevgeny Ivanov. Thorpe's affair involved a murder plot to try to get rid of his discarded lover Scott. These events may be long ago but do you not understand how Parliament works? Very little escapes the whips about what MPS do inside and outside of Parliament and their peccadillos are used to control divisions. Successive whips will likely have know about the behaviour of the Tory MP arrested last week long before it ever became public knowledge.
