The announcements about who is going to get what help, and how it's going to be paid for, is being announced at 11am, to Parliament, and then Sunak will tour the media programmes.

I've linked to the DM as it's paywall free, but as every media source seem to be saying the same things, I imagine (as ever) it's been leaked to journalists.

Couldn’t be timed so that the media stop talking about the party culture at no 10.?

My thoughts too vegansrock

Probably but in the whole scheme of things does it really matter they are doing something to help which is what was needed.

They break after until after the Jubilee this afternoon, so Johnson will be able to hide out for a couple of weeks?.

But, regardless, I do hope they have got measures to really help us - these predicted energy cost rises are terrifying some people.

It’s obvious why this is happening today , I certainly can’t be bought by them trying to water down Sue Grays report on parties etc.but fear others might be.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 26-May-22 08:35:30

I hope that they give help to the poorest and don’t spread it out to those who don’t need it just to garner votes in the up coming by-elections.

Happygirl79 Thu 26-May-22 08:41:27

I won't forgive or forget party gate. The help is essential for people to survive. I just hope it's enough.

Parsley3 Thu 26-May-22 08:51:58

The timing is certainly meant to try to save his hide. Johnson has already successfully fooled some of the people who think that being fined only once is a good thing. I expect a windfall tax will now be announced when last week it was not on. Sunak is spinning like a top.

They say they are going to find millions but personally havnt felt any benefit so far. My GC havnt had any tutoring promised a year ago to catch up on lost schooling,
I don’t see 40 new hospitals or 100,000 new doctors and nurses and on it goes. Just Promises of millions or billions to be spent which never seem to materialise.
He will get away with this as he has got away with all the other broken promises.
He wants to ‘buy’ us, and he will, with his promises and lies. Why are so many taken in. He is an embarrassment.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-May-22 08:58:58

I really do not care a hoot about the timing as long as though in need get help.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 26-May-22 09:05:05

I agree GG. As they’re due to have a break until after the Jubilee isn’t it better to announce it now rather than wait? The sooner people’s worries are alleviated, the better.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 26-May-22 09:10:17

*though should be *those (I am falling out with my iPad thinking it knows better ?)

They are only doing this to get themselves out of a disgraceful situation which they want people to forget as soon as possible.
Well I for one will not because had this scandal not gone on they would be offering nothing at all.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 26-May-22 09:27:03

So they are not doing this to help people?

So you would be happy to see the less well off in society suffer?

I will not forget Mr,Johnson’s behaviour but this does not mean that I am against any help given to those who are struggling, or the timing of that help.

So they are not doing this to help people?

Oh I very much doubt it.

You can't believe they are doing this to help the people of this country, can you? That their motivation is to protect those on low incomes? Surely you don't believe that GSM?

Oh, we're ever so grateful Mr Johnson sir. And that lovely Mr Sunak.

God bless us, everyone.

Blimey volver if by trying to save their own skin which they won’t the poorer in the U.K. are given financial help when they most need it, I am all for it.

It will not make me vote for them…

volver Thu 26-May-22 09:33:32

Well let's see what the package is, shall we?

Let's see how much help it will be. The 5p off a litre of petrol didn't help much, did it?

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 26-May-22 09:38:38

Yes I do believe that volver. And I’m a cynical person.

Really?

Some days I feel I can put up opposing arguments. Other days I just think its better to give up.

Guess what today is.

I had a wonderful dream the other night - yes, really! - that the pension was raised to the level of inflation! Well, I have never known a dream to come true, so why start now?

I’m sure the timing isn’t coincidental, but you’re wrong to say this is a dead cat story

This is the central issue hitting millions of peoples physical and mental well-being. It is absolutely crucial help comes and soon. If Sue Gray report has hastened measures, then I’m grateful
