Let's just bump this.

Very interesting, but I suppose people will say Rory has an axe to grind.

Rory Stewart goes down, in my estimation, after seeing this video. I did think he had some interesting views and opinions. Other people, who are stronger than him, also have those views. The Conservatives took this man and gave him the leadership of our country. They did this while knowing him for exactly what he is. His only party is the Boris Party; his only country Borisland. After his changes to the Ministerial Code - particularly the removal of the Sovereign, replacing her with himself, I think we should be very afraid.

It's obvious many in the Conservative Party knew how unbalanced Johnson was long before most of us did, even if we had our suspicions. Looking at the man I wonder what we have to come. If he becomes depressed by his current challenges, he could become paranoid. It's happened to challenged, immature dictators in the past and then, we may find, all hell is let loose.

Rory Stewart did not empower Johnson, DaisyAnne. He fought him for the leadership because he knew he was totally unfit for the role. He has made his views very clear ever since.

I imagine that you can't see why he has gone down in my estimation because he hasn't in yours. That's okay; I think that just means we have, at this point, a difference of opinion That opinion is not something I can be argued out of nor, I expect, you can be argued into.

I did share the puzzlement you expressed in your last sentence, until I saw this video.

Changes in the ministerial code will change nothing, wrongdoing will still get reported, it will be public opinion and acceptability of the allegation that will matter rather than any automatic action.

In our house he is know as "Rory the Tory" ? I heard him speak at an event a few years ago. I admire him for what he has done, but his grip of domestic politics is woeful. He was almost laughed out of the event and managed to alienate a big proportion of the people there.

He's definitely a Tory. Old style, but definitely a Tory.

He no longer describes himself as a Tory. He says that he would stand as an independent if he ever stood again.

He says that he is a person who prefers to tackle issues in a practical way rather than with an ideological one. Although I’m not convinced that anyone does that.

He has got particular ideas that are very conservative though. He's right of centre and he's a unionist who thinks Scotland and England are really just the same country.

I've given away my prejudices now.

However he does appear to be a man of principle, in a time when they seem to be few and far between.

Have you not noticed that public opinion is the very last thing that matters to this government?

That he told a Glasgow audience they had no experience of what it was like to have people of different cultures living in their city?

That he was an English MP who tried to tell the same audience that they were better together and they were really not understanding what he was telling them?

You're a lucky man, Rory. Just about got out of that venue in one piece.
