BBC bias

Tonight BBC radio 4 "Any Questions" comes from Lerwick, the principal town in the constituency of Orkney and Shetland, which has been consistently represented by a Liberal or Liberal Democrat MP since Jo Grimond first won the seat in 1950.

The Brexit Broadcasting Corporation, in their efforts to ignore and marginalise the most pro-European political party in the UK, have selected an "Any Questions" panel which does not include a single Liberal Democrat.

This would be appalling at any time, but the day after the Liberal Democrat candidate, Richard Foord, overturned a record breaking Tory majority in a historic by-election at Tiverton and Honiton, this must be the most blatant demonstration of anti-Liberal Democrat, pro brexit bias we have ever seen from the BBC

I think the BBC has completely lost it’s marbles.

Fiona Bruce had acted as the Tory spokesman last night on QT.

Unfortunately there are now Tory placemen in all the influential positions in the BBC and I am not, so far impressed with the new political editor Chris Mason, host of "Any Questions" who, on his performance so far, appears to be even less impartial than his predecessor Laura Kuenssberg.

I honestly think that whatever our political leanings are, our sensibilities are upset by some press reporting, on the BBC and elsewhere. The BBC walk a narrow line because they know the government is against public broadcasting by a fee paying service, so they have become increasingly circumspect in what is said. I’m not a fan of Fiona Bruce, but if you watch Clive Myrie or Huw Edwards, you can see that their personal political leanings aren’t the same as hers are. That’s why I think it’s incumbent on us all to watch/read/listen to a wide variety of sources.

I could not disagree more about Chris Mason! I think he says it like it is but in a calm thoughtful way without Laura Kuenssberg’s permanent sneer. I have a lot of time for Clive Myrie too.

If a wide variety of sources includes the BBC TV flagship political debating programme "Question Time" and BBC Radio 4's flagship political debating programme "Any Question", what does that contribute to our overview of the political landscape?

Anyone who only viewed these two programmes would think that we lived in a two-party state and both of these parties were decidedly pro-brexit.

Of course in years gone by another party, one led by a man who failed seven times to be elected as an MP, yet got himself on the panel of "Any Questions" no less than 29 times in the years leading up to the fraudulent referendum of 2016, was the exception to the rule that the only two parties which mattered were Conservatives and Labour.

I agree with you Maw about Clive Myrie but I am not do sure about Chris Mason.

I've always wanted to throw things when listening to Any Questions which is maybe a sign of a good debate programme; but lately I find Question Time just unbearable.

Last night's was dreadful, and the one before (was it Newcastle, or maybe Teeside?) was even worse. It was one-sided and showed the worst side of human nature. Robin Day must be turning in his grave.

Robin Day must be turning in his grave.

Yes indeed.
