Just when I think boris has hit his lowest he hits. a new low, now mocking Putin's bare chested horseback ride at a summit. The last thing we need is a Putin humiliated 7 angered more than he already is. Am I right to be disgusted at these juvenile antics or is it just me being anti Johnson? The sooner we get this shower of jerks out of downing st & get some sensible adults in the better

Zoejory Sun 26-Jun-22 18:39:38

Trudeau and Ursula von der Leyen were at it as well. In fact it was Trudeau who said, We're going to get the bare-chested horseback riding display.'

Just a bit of banter, ( I know we shouldn't banter these days) before the serious discussions started.

BlueBelle Sun 26-Jun-22 18:46:14

You are right to be disgusted spabbygirl it’s not banter it s poking the tiger It’s nasty it’s dangerous it’s uncalled for

volver Sun 26-Jun-22 18:50:30

Of all the things we have to worry about with Johnson, this comes pretty far down the priority list.

Urmstongran Sun 26-Jun-22 18:52:50

Ditto Trudeau and Von de Leyen I think. ?

Smileless2012 Sun 26-Jun-22 19:00:48

You're right Zoejory it was Trudeau who suggested the bare chested horse riding, so maybe you singling out BJ in your OP
spabbygirl is because you're anti Johnson.

Casdon Sun 26-Jun-22 19:11:57

Or anti unattractive overweight men over fifty doing anything in public bare chested. Trudeau maybe, at least he is fit.

spabbygirl Sun 26-Jun-22 19:51:08

I am anti Johnson I admit, anti any tory actually. I didn't realise more were in on the joke, they could have done it behind the camera, I so agree Casdon! I agree with BlueBell it is poking the tiger and unnecessary

Urmstongran Sun 26-Jun-22 19:56:13

Ah. So NOT ‘just Boris’ then.
What a disappointment for some.
This is definitely going to be the summer of ‘death by a thousand cuts’ isn’t it. Mud sticks so let’s throw some eh?

As volver says ‘as you were’.

Joseanne Sun 26-Jun-22 20:01:49

If you watch the clip you can hear who said what. I think the German, Italian and Japanese leaders might have been a bit slow to contribute language wise, Macron doesn't do jokes, but all credit to Ursula von der Leyen keeping up with Boris and Trudeau. Biden was probably half asleep.
Joking apart, I don't feel the laughing was appropriate.

Sorry Urmstongran you can’t excuse him, he started it. Here’s the transcript, courtesy of ITV News.

‘The prime minister and his Canadian counterpart discussed the Russian leader and his bizarre history of being photographed without a shirt.

With the sun shining in the Bavarian Alps, where the G7 leaders were meeting, Mr Johnson questioned whether they should keep their suit jackets on.

Warming to his theme, he then said, “shall we take our clothes off?", suggesting “we all have to show that we’re tougher than Putin."

Mr Trudeau joined in, referring to a “bare-chested horseback ride” – Mr Putin was pictured shirtless riding a horse in 2009.

Mr Johnson then said: “We’ve got to show our pecs.”’

What’s wrong with trying to inject a bit of humour into proceedings before the serious stuff begins?
Hardly worth mentioning unless of course you are a committed Boris hater.

maddyone Sun 26-Jun-22 22:49:35

Why am I always the last to know? Where did you all see this?

Actually JE I think I am!! But more of a Rees Mogg hater in fact.
Not seen the clip so not really bothered …there’s far worse has gone on and been done by BJ.

spabbygirl Sun 26-Jun-22 23:08:12

yes BJ has done far worse its true, but its tasteless in the extreme, as usual for boris

This is on top of his ‘banter’ with Dorries at the V&A fundraiser…

The "joke" was very puerile, unfunny, and not really necessary.

There is no point in trying to humiliate Putin, because it's Ukraine that will suffer.?

Maudi Mon 27-Jun-22 08:13:29

Should they have got out the white flag and waved that around instead, probably that's what Starmer would have done if he was the PM (God forbid). What's wrong with a bit of humour.

DiamondLily Mon 27-Jun-22 08:18:36

It's not our "war" - it's a conflict between two parts of the old USSR.

What Ukraine and Russia end up doing is between them.

maddyone Mon 27-Jun-22 10:20:33

I know that we’re supporting Ukraine, but I really wish we were doing far more. Putin won’t give up, he’s like Hitler, he needs to be stopped.

It's interesting how often we hear what Keir Starmer "would/would not have done if..." Where do all these crystal balls come from?

Well said, Greta.

It's not our "war" - it's a conflict between two parts of the old USSR. 'Evil happens when good men do nothing' springs to mind.

Well, come on, it makes a change from saying what Corbyn would have done, which was a favourite from some of our more right-leaning members until recently! grin

Johnson is a laughing, joking, closet fascist and a supporter of the ERG. That support is mutual.
