I do not see my 14 month old grandchild very often as they live 300miles away, but on a recent visit I noticed that when finger feeding, my grandchild stuffs the mouth with food sometimes causing mild choking which is a worry to me, how can this be discouraged

I wouldn't worry about this Joan44. I think all little ones do it. They usually know when they are beaten and it all comes back out in a lump, usually with plenty of spit and a bit of mucus behind! smile Little darlings!

Do not let him put it on your plate!! hmm

try cutting everything up in to bite-size pieces? But if baby fills his / her mouth with 2 or 3 pieces what to do? Take it as a sign that the food offered is 'yummy' and have plenty of tissues ready to catch the 'fall out'! As jangly said a lot do this ... and the ones who don't are fussy eaters and THAT's a whole lot worse!

He'll grow out of it. Bite-size pieces don't work – they just cram a handful in at once. One of my granddaughters used to fill her mouth so full with cherry tomatoes that she looked like a hamster. A few years later and she has impeccable table manners. Having said that, bite-size food and miniature vegetables appeal to small children and encourage them to try different things.

Always cut grapes in half.

Its fashionable to have grapes at parties these days. I hope the party givers cut them in half first.
