Seems Starbucks is letting people use their premises as bases for UK Uncut protests against cuts in benefits and rising child care costs.

Hat tip to the other gransnetter who let me know about this.

The coffee is foul, though.

My daughter works for Starbucks, she pays her tax and NI through her wages via PAYE like all of the thousands of ordinary people they employ in this country so I think we should be careful of inciting boycotts etc that could cost innocent people their jobs ! shock

Just getting down of soap box to now say.....................

Yes my daughter tells me they have a very laid back approach to customers buying one coffee and staying for an entire morning/afternoon making full use of their free wi-fi connections too.

Bags, sorry that's the wrong end of the stick you're holding. UK Uncut are going to occupy Starbucks premises in protest. (The occupations are usually quite jolly, friendly affairs and often premises are 'transformed' into libraries, childcare facilities etc.)

I won't be boycotting Starbucks as rarely go there anyway.

I'm not impressed by their apparent largesse in allowing their premises to be used for UK Uncut ..... perhaps if they paid their due taxes, instead of claiming that they make a loss in the UK, there would be fewer benefit cuts!

You can see a typical UK Uncut demo here www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIHg3-xYJlI. My nearest demonstration will be transforming a Starbucks into a creche to highlight that tax, legally avoided by Starbucks could have been used to fund childcare provision.

So no generosity on Starbucks part then grin.

Thanks, ga. Oh well, it keeps them in the public's eye!

Agree about the foulness of the coffee, though it's good for a caffeine kick in an emergency.

Hey ho.

Actually, I was thinking along the lines of Victorian capitalists making loads of money and then building hospitals and schools and starting social reform groups.

Living in hope.....
