What an end to the day!

Had had a lovely day with little GS in garden. Off to gym for my 30 minute workout. Back in DH car to find that he had had a phone call from my DD to say that she had been advised by the maternity unit to go along to be monitored due to having tummy pains. She is 32 weeks pregnant and was having griping pains. Off we went with little GS in Pjs thinking he was going on an 'Adventure'. DD and myself went to Triage while DH and DGS stayed in car amusing each other!

Her partner was on his way home from the City early to be with DGS (he has a pathological fear of anything medical so is best occupied elsewhere.

While we waited to be seen a woman came storming into the unit flanked by two paramedics. She was screaming at the midwife and was in a lot of distress. She shouted that she had seen her little boy for probably the last time and that her baby was going to be taken away at birth. The managed to calm her by gently talking to her. She left for a while then came back in and apologised to me and my DD. She then latched on to me and told me the whole sorry story. She showed me a picture of her little boy who, in my eyes, had FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) I have worked with these children and he certainly had the features. She had a black eye and told me that all her men had been violent.

We were called into the Triage room where my DG was wired up to a monitor. All was well and it was a severe case of Braxton Hicks. We were there for 5 1/2 hours - very well looked after. BUT in the other bays during that time were - A young mum to be with kidney stones and in terrible pain, Another mum came in after being hit by an electric shock which threw here across the room, wanted to know if baby was OK, it was!!! A mum came into Triage in labour and almost gave birth there.I often wondered where the script writers for TV medical dramas get their ideas!

Home by midnight and peace, knowing that my DD is safe as is the baby girl she is expecting.. My goodness don't those babies hearts gallop?
