Henry 1

I'm fascinated by these excavations, and the findings although a little disconcerted by disturbing buried remains. It's good though to see historical mysteries cleared up as in the case of Richard III.

I absolutely agree loopylou. Hopefully it might not happen in this case. Henry has already had a burial and been entombed so maybe they will just look for it and leave it. In the end they may not do anything.

Seemingly we are awash with the bones of dead kings. I have also read that King Stephen, who succeeded the said Henry 1 may be lying in a field in Kent somewhere. I believe, he was a grandson of William the Conqueror and was brought over from France to rule instead of Henry 1's daughter Matilda, presumably because she was a mere woman and couldn't lead troops into battle, well Boudica did, so yah boo to that!!! A civil war ensued for a number of years and King Stephen was eventually succeeded by Matilda's son who became Henry II and the rest is history Stephen died of natural causes and was buried in the grounds of a monastery in Faversham, Kent where he lay until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in Henry VIII's reign. So archaeologists believe his bones could also be excavated, although I imagine finding descendants with matching DNA may be quite a task, also Richard III had the defining feature of the curved spine.

It's so exciting I think many of us have been fired up by the Richard III discovery.
