Is there a book aimed at helping people who live with someone (adult) on the autism spectrum? Little everyday things that are difficult because of the lack of 'connect' both ways.

Thanks, jenty.

Good links via that one, jenty, and I shall certainly look at many of them, but what I want is hints and ideas aimed at the effects of autistic behaviour (particularly those associated with Asperger syndrome) on the people someone with Apserger's live with. Quite often the behaviour is so lacking in what might be called ordinary social skills that it is quite difficult to get one's head around it emotionally.

Put aside what you consider to be ordinary social skills.
Remain rational, clear and consistent, without becoming embroiled in an emotional bun fight.
Often behaviour is not deliberately wilful. It's a lack of comprehension with social mores.
Challenging behaviour is not aimed at you, however much it might feel like it.

It's terribly difficult to maintain an unemotional perspective, and am sorry you're being troubled with this. flowers

Thank you, ffinn. That's very clear and has cleared my head a lot! Exactly the sort of strategy I was looking for. It's so difficult to detach oneself from emotions when you're right in the thick of it.

Have a look at some of the books by Temple Grandin. My DD has read her works extensively to try and get an understanding of he DS's behaviour. Have you looked at the Autism Scotland website? Plus there is the Helensburgh and Lomond Autism and Asperger's Society. They have a Facebook page.
